I took my starter to the JD dealer yesterday. Lucky for me they didn't have a new one. The mechanic figured it was just dirty around the Bendix so used some fancy spray and worked it back and forth. He figured I had cooked the solenoid ( :???: ) So we robbed one off another started that looked like it should fit but the "numbers" said it wouldn't. And I brought it home. I decide to flusk the dirt out some more so used some diesel in a jug as high as the Bendix and flushed a bunch more crap out. I think maybe even a pebble.
Put it back on today and it worked like a top.
Guess JD used many different starters, on just about every model.
