It's election day in Venezuela....

....and I've seen reports that they're expecting as much as 75% participation by registered voters. If I recall correctly the highest ever recorded was 94% back in the early days of the democracy.

It's 5:30 in the morning and the streets are already active with vehicles driving around blaring trumpets to get everyone up and to the polls.

I surely hope the turnout is high this time too. I honestly believe a majority of the voters are finally weary of revolution, socialism, and the BS about the imperialist yankees wanting to control their futures.

We'll know late tonight.

Good luck Henrique Capriles Radonski. You ran a magnificant campaign. Here's hoping that common sense prevails over the urge to believe that the government can give you everything you need in life.

Do the dead get to vote over there as well?

Nope, the country seems to have a tighter system than ours in the US. I'm not saying there can be no shenanigans, but the opposition is convinced that it's going to be an honest election. I think the only fly in the ointment will be if it's a razor-thin margin for one side or the other.

Late polls show a surge towards Capriles. And judging by the size of crowds he drew in what were otherwise strong Chavez states or Chavez strongholds in areas of major cities, indicate that the undecided voters have moved in his direction.

We shall see.

Are you sure, Whitewing? We can hurry up and send Jimmy Carter over there to oversee things. Sounds like Chavez needs all the help he can get.

Better yet, you can send some of your people over here to oversee our next election. Start with Chicago.
