...and I can't find what I'm looking for. I found where hypocritexposer had posted this article, but I still didn't find what I was looking for.

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123777083390610069.html

Here's an excerpt from that article:

On March 2, AIG announced both record losses and $30 billion in fresh Treasury aid.

The following day, Mr. Geithner appeared at a hearing of the House Ways and Means Committee. Rep. Joseph Crowley, a New York Democrat, asked the secretary about more than $160 million in bonuses that AIG would be paying to financial-products employees "in the coming weeks."

Treasury officials say the AIG problem didn't register with Mr. Geithner at the hearing amid the other issues he faced. Mr. Baker, the Treasury spokesman, acknowledged that information about the financial-products bonuses was "in the public arena...for many months." But, he said, it wasn't until March 10 -- five days before the big batch of retention payments were due -- that department staff spelled out the situation for the secretary.

The following day, March 11, Mr. Geithner, alert to the potential political fallout, called Mr. Liddy to protest the bonus payouts. At a congressional hearing last week, Mr. Liddy described the call as "open and frank."

According to Mr. Liddy's sworn testimony from that hearing, Mr. Geithner indicated on the call that he had learned about the bonus "situation about a week" earlier.

So...on March 3, Geithner was asked about the AIG bonuses at a Congressional hearing. On March 11, he said that he had learned about the bonuses "about a week" earlier. That would coincide with him learning about them on March 3. But...

He claims that he didn't find out about them until...March 10?

It's pretty obvious that Geithner LIED.

And no matter how much I search, I can't find anywhere that you Obama supporters have spoken out against that. :???:

Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner said on Thursday he takes responsibility for the controversy surrounding the payment of bonuses to American International Group employees.

He repeated in an interview on CNN television that he first learned of the bonuses last Tuesday, March 10, and said that if fault was to be assigned for not knowing earlier, then it lay with him.

"On Tuesday I was informed about the full scale and scope of these specific bonus problems," Geithner said. "You know, it's my responsibility, I was in a position where I didn't know about these sooner, I take full responsibility for that."

When I can find the story that mentions the discrepancy in days I'll respond but as you can surely read in this article there is no mention of his prior knowledge.

Why read it when you can watch Giethner being questioned about it on March 3rd.

Geithner, Democrats Backpedal On AIG

Treasury Secretary’s Congressional Testimony Contradicts Video Showing He Knew About Bonuses
By Joe Murray, The Bulletin
Wednesday, March 25, 2009
Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner sought to deflect responsibility for the AIG bonus scandal yesterday during testimony before the House Financial Services Committee, denying he had any prior knowledge AIG planned to give out more than $200 million in bonuses to top executives. However, C-SPAN video evidence shows Mr. Geithner was aware of this much earlier than he said in yesterday’s testimony.

Mr. Geithner’s testimony came as Democrats struggle to find a solution to quell the populist passions that erupted when news broke AIG, the recipient of $170 billion in government funds, paid retention bonuses to its executives.

While being grilled by the committee, Mr. Geithner stressed he was unaware of the “details” of the bonuses until March 10.

“I did not have … detailed knowledge of these particular legally contracted retention bonuses,” Mr. Geithner said.

“As I’ve discovered, a lot of this was in the public domain earlier and in January, too. Although I don’t believe — well, in any case, I was not aware about the details of the payments or their legal nature until March 10.”

But even as Mr. Geithner reiterated his ignorance to lawmakers there was serious concern as to the validity of his response. On March 3, the Treasury Secretary went before the House Ways and Means Committee where one Democratic lawmaker specifically mentioned the bonuses in question. The transcript from the hearing undermines Mr. Geithner’s statement he was in the dark until March 10.

During his opening remarks, U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley, D-N.Y., indicted former President George W. Bush for his lack of accountability and transparency over AIG.

In criticizing Republican leadership, Mr. Crowley said:

“AIG paid 343 employees of AIG FP — their Financial Products division that created the financial hole that AIG is in, and in turn a multibillion-dollar bill for American taxpayers — $56 million in bonuses and are slated to pay an additional $162 million in bonuses to 393 participants in the coming weeks. And there’s more. Further bonus payments totaling approximately $230 million are due to 407 participants at AIG’s Financial Products division in March 2010.”

No public records exist showing whether or not Mr. Geithner acted to block the AIG bonuses between the March 3 hearing and March 10 when he claims he first became aware of the bonuses.

But as the Mr. Geithner attempted to dodge the AIG silver bullet, Democrats in the Senate continued a pattern of inconsistency. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., first signaled a bill that would tax $165 million worth of AIG bonuses would be reconsidered; however, he later said it was a Senate priority.

Late Monday night, Reid spokesman Jim Manley told CNN, “In light of concerns raised by President Obama and Senate Republicans we need additional time to discuss next steps.”

But Mr. Reid rebuked such sentiment yesterday.

“The issue’s not over, and that’s an understatement,” Mr. Reid told reporters. “I think AIG represents everything that’s bad about corporate America — the greed and even perhaps the corruption, and I think it’s something that is clearly not over yet.”

The Majority Leader stressed the AIG issue was “an issue that’s simply not going to go away” and pledged the Senate would “stay on top of it.”

Despite the high popularity surrounding a House bill that would tax 90 percent of the AIG bonuses — a Rasmussen Reports poll found 57 percent of the nation supported the proposal — Barack Obama defended his reluctant to support a bill he felt was unconstitutional.

On an interview with CBS’ “60 Minutes” Sunday, Mr. Obama said, “Let’s see if there are ways of doing this that are both legal, that are constitutional, that uphold our basic principles of fairness,” adding he did not want to “govern out of anger.”

But sensing the flames they were fanning just a week ago could turn into five-alarm fire, Senate Democrats attempted to contain the situation.

U.S. Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, signaled he was open to comments over the bill. Last week he angrily denounced the AIG bonuses.

“I want to hear what senators have to say. A lot are weighing in now with different ideas,” Mr. Baucus said. “Some are tax. Some are regulatory. But they’re still all addressing bonuses.”

Thank you for your question, Rosie. I thought that image would be of interest to you Obama supporters because that is what I received in response to a Freedom of Information Act request that I filed recently with the Obama Administration. That was the only thing I found in the file marked:

You don't have to look for any story that mentions the discrepancy. As Tam pointed out, all of the information has already been provided for you - you just have to look.

In fact, I provided all of the necessary information in the opening post in this thread. You just have to look at the numbers - do the math.

But...I suppose the argument could be made that instead of being a liar, the Treasury Secretary just didn't pay attention and is grossly incompetent. Is that the argument you wish to make?
