I've Turned Into My Dad

Saturday evenings around my house when I grew up were as predictable as the seasons. If it was summer and nice out it would start with fresh boiled shrimp and Dad's homemade red sauce. After that it was Lawrence Welk, The Porter Waggoner Show, HeeHaw, The Mandrel Sisters, Marty Robbins Show, Glenn Campbell, The Opry, The Opry Backstage and the Gaither Gospel Hour. And if Mom would go to bed early then it was the Benny Hill Show. A little risque for its time, but that was ok. That Pentecostal preacher we listened to on Sunday morning wasn't gonna let anybody go eat until we all got re-saved. Now on the weekends all I watch is RFD-TV. Some shows may be a little different but I love the old reruns. I can actually remember when some aired the first time. Mother called lastweek and asked what I was doing. She about fell over laughing when I said I was watching the "Big Joe Polka Show". I hated Saturday evening tv when I was a kid. She said I've turned into Dad. I can think of worse things happening. Anyone have any shrimp?

We had two channels when I was a kid at home. Dad would watch the news and then fall asleep in his chair. If one of us kids snuck over and changed the channel to see if there was better watching, Dad would snap awake and say, " HEY, I was watching that!"

At the risk of sounding uppity gcreek, we had 3 channels. Most of the time. Thankyou FH.

Saturday AM @ 9AM = Gunsmoke on the Radio

Sunday AM's @ 5:30AM = Stuart Hamblen's Original "Cowboy Church of the Air" (Blood N Guts N the Decks Ran Red - but good music)
Always had to look for The Stuart Hamblen Riders in the "Rose Bowl Parade"
