"It's USDA's job to regulate our processing industry, not Japan's,"...

...concerned the United States could set a precedent by allowing Japan to audit the plants.

"It is critically important for Japan to recognize the U.S. food safety system and accept imports from all U.S. beef facilities approved by the USDA,"...

...but halted imports two months later after finding a shipment that contained backbone,...

The USDA couldn't follow simple protocol for two month and these folks are concerned that the Japanese want more assurances??????????????? You sleep in the bed you make!
Besides, with HACCP, each plant could have a different protocol, albeit USDA approved.

"U.S. beef is the safest and highest quality beef in the world,"...

Then foreign inspectors going through their plants should be no problem and welcomed!!! What is Creekstone's response? No wonder there is a 15% drop in beef consumption with these people in charge of opening markets!!!
