Mine is a Fuji FinePix E500 and I don't like it.
I don't know if all dig. cameras are this way, but sun really bothers mine. I have to have the sun behind me or the pics come out pretty dark.
Also, I would suggest trying them in the store (or maybe there is a spec for this) and see how fast they are. As in when you click the button, how long before it takes the pic. With my camera I have to take the picture about 2/3 of a second before I THINK something is going to happen
Some cameras come (Canon I think) come with 'picture burst' where you can take several pics very close together. This is really nice for action shots especially as you can just delete those you dont like right away.

Just some of my thoughts.

Tibbs...

We have a larger Kodak that we take our catalog photos (and other stuff) with and have always really liked it. I'll have find it to get the model number. I am sure it's model has been replaced with a newer version but you should be able to find something similar. It has a lot of zoom and a higher level of megapixels. It's drawback is that you can not take a lot of photos one right after another--it takes some time to refocus, etc. Sorry I don't know what the technical term is.

I just bought a Sony Cybershot. Give me some time and I'll let you know what I think. Thus far I'm pretty impressed. Edit: I just got out the new beast and it has that burst setting. Pretty cool. It also seems to "recover" faster than our Kodak camera.

One thing...the new models of cameras come out late Feb. through early April so it might be a great time to get a great deal on a close out model. That is one of the reasons I bought the camera I did...it was marked down over 70%.

Edit #2: Another thing Tibbs...I'd be sure to buy the extended warrenty and try get accident protection with it. The screens on these new cameras are well over $300 to fix---and if the company decides that it was not accident related (like someone would intentionally bust the screen) the warrenties generally don't cover them. My four year warranty was around $50 and with that I get a new battery ($55 when I looked) any time in that four year period, as well as free cleaning.

How are the puppies? I hope you get that camera quick so we can see some more pics of them.

Cheers---

That is one of the main reasons I've got to get a camera!!! People are asking for pictures and they are sooooooooooooooooooooooooo much cute'er than they were at 3 days!!!

They have their eyes open and are getting quite mobile!!!

Great...hey look at my edited post. I added some stuff, that might be pretty useful, esp. the warranty thoughts.

Sorry I wasn't thinking when I typed the first time.

The store had a decent camera for $74 yesterday. I just about bought it, but it didn't have video feature (we have used that feature a ton for the bull sale...everyone wants a video! We even took video on our Kodak of every heifer and put it on our website. We certainly aren't going to put the boys at Superior out of business, but I think it's a useful tool, probably even more so than taking photos .)

We have a Kodak DX6490. It's 4 years old now. Pretty good little camera for being idiot proof. It is only 4 MegaPixel, so your not going to get any big wall hangin' enlargements out of it, but if your just lookin' for a handy point and shoot, and put on the 'puter, I'd recommend something like this. Keep in mind the sharpness also depends on the lens. Old school taught me German made lenses are the best quality, and I still have no reason to believe otherwise.
I don't know what kind of camera Jassy has, but those are some sharp (in focus) pic's. She also must have had some art classes or photo classes, or she's a natural when it comes to the artistic side of photos.

Our Kodak is an older verson of one of these. As I said, it's been a darn good camera.

Those look nice TTB, but how big are they hard to tell with just the pics. I want something prefereable I can just stick in my pocket....

I don't need anything with a lot of megapixals cuz yeah most of the pictures I print won't be over 8x10 and will be just point and shoot and put back in my pocket....I'm thinking in the 8 pixal range....I dunno??

They are kinda big (downfall) but you almost have to get a camera that big to get any kind of zoom. Probably you can get what you need in the 5-8 MP range. It's kinda like you get to the point of when does more MP do any better. For me, personally, zoom is more important, but for others that isn't as important.

Here is the new camera I have....we'll see how it works. It is very small (3.5" wide, 2.25" tall, .75" thick,) it will fit in a shirt pocket. I thus far really like it, but I also haven't used it much. I was able to get it at a huge discount from Best Buy. They have always done well with anything I've bought there, although I know others (Lilly comes to mind) who have had troubles.

Again, whatever you do, I would be sure to get the warranty, and add the accident coverage if possible.

Cheers...

You might look at this camera, I wanted one that would fit in a pocket, but still take good pictures, it has a lot of little extras, but not hard for anyone to use.. and priced pretty right

Tibbs, I learned the hard way that I want/need a viewfinder. I first bought a Cannon 400...and it was fine...but then it got really slow...so I then found out that all digital cameras are designed to do that with age (how else would they be able to sell new cameras?)

So I bought a Panasonic. It takes good sharp pictures, has a zoom and good mexipixal. But it does not have a viewfinder, and it is tough (for me anyway) to take pictures in the sun. Because of the glare, you can't see the subject. I sure don't like that.

So I'll make sure another camera I bought had a viewfinder.

My hubby got him a little pocket camera Samsung S850 and it takes great pictures. It has 8mp with 5x zoom,,,and several common settings. For what he uses it for, it works perfect. I'm like some others here,,,I use a big camera for the powerful zoom, but his little camera sure comes in handy when ya need to take a picture of a tractor or cow or whatever and I don't want to pack around the big camera...Unless you print out lots of pictures the MegaPixels isn't a big deal...The basic 4x6,5x7 sizes will print out great with only a 5mp...and 8mp will print out a great 11x14 size photo..anything larger than that is gonna cost ya. So don't let the megapixels hype cost ya...go for ease of use and size and also think about what you'll be mostly using it for...Digital camera's these days are all pretty good for just everyday use. Good luck and hope you get one soon!

My new camera is a Fuji Fine Pix S700 so far I like it just as much if not more than my previous Fuji Fine pix S3100. It's not pocket sized. The few that I've messed with that were pocket size had horrible discolorations on the pictures....not real noticable until they were downloaded to the computer, and no viewfinder. I absolutely hafta have a viewfinder. There are times that if you are outside, tryin to take a picture with the digital screen display, all you'll see is your own reflection and not what you are shootin at. It's very affordable. Also somethin else I had to pay attention to.....I did NOT want one that had a lithium battery. I wanted AA's because I can buy rechargeable one's and use them over and over again. The last four I bought I used them for about 2 years, and they cost $9.97. They will still charge, but I wanted new one's to go in the new camera. Just so I started out fresh.

My camera is a Sony Super Steady Shot DSC-T100. It has 8.1 megapixels and a 5 power zoom. It is pocket-sized, measuring 3 5/8" long x 2 3/8" wide x 3/4" thick. It cost $500 when I bought it about a year ago at Best Buy. Being always in my pocket, it is available when needed. :)

I would be the last one to go to for camera advise. but do get one with a view finder. If the light is not right it is hard to see what you are taking through the display, also get as large of a LCD as you can find. Most of my picture taking has been with a through the lens film camera. I have never really been satisfied with any digital camera I have owned, but I think I have been to price consious.

I'm currently using a Kodak Z650 with 10x zoom and I like it. It takes nice shots but it takes a long time between shots. I'm going to buy a faster SD card to help with that.

http://www.dpreview.com/ has some very good reviews, including time between shot and power up timing. Before I bought my Kodak, I had settled on a Canon PowerShot A540 (or maybe it was a 560). Good pocket sized camera, viewfinder, 6 megapixel, and excellent shots.

http://www.digitalcamerainfo.com/ I just found this site and it looks good as well, with professional reviewers.

Good luck. Remember you often can't go wrong with a Fuji or a Canon.
