Jim Lent's Linebreeding Book

I finally got my copy if Jim's book in the mail and finished reading it tonight. Very good reading. It was fascinating to me just studying all of the pedigrees and trying to fathom the patience, work and commitment it's taken to keep a herd closed for 125+ years. Agree with the method or not, it's impressive.

His phone number and such can be found through the American Hereford Association I think. Good luck, it's worth it.

Jim must have gotten a new batch printed...heard he was sold out. Might have to buy another spare copy...my last spare hasn't found its way back home.

I wouldn't buy anything but a linebred bull!!

Linebreeding simply concentrates genetics...if there are flawed genes, they are exposed...then they can be eliminated from the gene pool. As Jim says in the book, linebreeding without ruthless culling leads nowhere.

It has worked for Larry Leonhardt in the Angus breed.
He is known to be one of the leading authorities of Angus genetics.
But he hasn't written a book yet.

You can put me on the list to buy that one! :D

The best book, i've ever found on linebreeding, was Anxiety the 4th. I want all of my cows to be at least 3/4 sisters. When I introduce new genetics into my herd, it's always maternally.

The genetic bell curve is really narrowed down, by linebreeding.

Who's the author of Anxiety the 4th Ben? Our linebreeding has been more by chance than design to date but made a concerted effort with both the Welsh Balcks and Galloways in this breeding season.

That would be Jim's book...unless Gudgell and Simpson published something.
