U.S. payrolls expanded by 80,000 net jobs in June as the unemployment rate remained unchanged at 8.2 percent, new data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows.
The report has sent U.S. indices sharply lower in pre-market trade, with the Dow now off 60 points. Economists polled by Bloomberg were looking for a gain of 100,000 during the month, with private payrolls advancing 106,000.
However, private payrolls only expanded by some 84,000 positions.
