Yes, folks, I'm afraid that was one of the headlines in today's Arizona Republic newspaper. Joe died on Wednesday in the saddle while helping friends and neighbors work cattle near Sedona, AZ where he lived and worked. He was the last living founder of the highly regarded Cowboy Artists of America organization. Here is a link to the article in case you would like to have more details. The world will miss Joe.

Sad to hear of this. I enjoyed Joe Beelers work. He had many that made the cover of Western Horseman magazine.

I bet he couldn't have picked a better way to go!!!

Glad he died while doing what he loved.

He was one of three or four who could really draw the real working cowboy and horses. I could pick out a Beeler by looking. Sure going to miss his art.

Tam had the pleasure of being accepted to a CAA workshop down near west Yellowstone back in the early nineties. Joe Beeler was her favorite of the artists. Before she left for the workshop I noticed that I had some books from my Kid days called Bret King cowboy mysteries. Written by Dan Scott and some were illustrated by Joe Beeler. Tam took four of them along and he autograghed them. One for each of the kids and one for myself. He was tickled that anybody still had them, even called his wife over to look at them.
He also told me that Dan Scott was the pen name for S.Omar Barker. The grandaddy of cowboy poetry.
