John Deutch, Security Clearance Revoked-

Taking his turn at Panetta, Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) raised a question that could pose a new problem for the new Obama administration already reeling in the wake of Tom Daschle’s withdrawal as the nominee for secretary of Health and Human Services.

According to Coburn, retired Adm. Dennis Blair, Obama’s director of national intelligence, has asked John Deutch, a CIA director during the Clinton administration, to serve on an advisory panel overseeing sensitive satellite programs.

The problem, Coburn said, is that Deutch had his security clearance revoked for mishandling classified information on his unsecured computers at home.

Caught off guard, Panetta said he’d have to check into the matter.

“This is the first time I’ve heard that,” he said. “I don’t want to jump to any quick conclusions. Clearly, this is something I need to talk to [Blair] about.”

Why in the heck didn't the Bush admin. go after Berger? If we are to have a two party system then we need to have them put a check on the other party's abuses.

The Bush Admin was not beholding to the "Scorched Earth" policy reminescent of the Clinton days, but Berglur was prosecuted and fined $50,000.00.

Basically there was no clamor by the media to hang him, like there would have been had he been a Republican.

I hope he lost all chances at a security clearance in the future. The republicans who were in control of the oversight committees had the chance to look into what was taken and get to the bottom of it to see if it was a political cover up or not. Without this (even closed door hearings) it seems the incident is just being swept under the rug. The president, no matter what party, should not have the chance to break the laws of the land for his own political self interest when it impedes on the interests of the country.

The great threat to our country is coming from within when we allow politics and politicians to be held above the law. It has happened since Reagan (Arms for hostages) and seems to continue to present presidents and can not happen in a country that is supposed to be ruled by law, not men.

All he has to do is say it was a mistake....admit his sorrow and he'll get the security clearance back by executive order and have a job the next day. That's the protocol.
