I guess someone missed what her hero said? I'm sure expecting to hear an explanation for this one. Surely John Thune, hero, is not a man who would forego his principals to get elected! Link below; my emphasis.

"Freshman Sen. John Thune, the Republican hero two years ago for ousting the Senate Democratic leader, said Wednesday that if he were running this year, he'd distance himself from President Bush and his agenda.

In 2004, the White House political operation recruited Thune to challenge Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle. He dealt the Democratic Party a major blow, edging Daschle in South Dakota as Bush captured a second term.

Thune, a conservative who rarely breaks with the GOP or Bush, said Wednesday that if he were up for re-election this year, he'd adopt a different strategy.

"If I were running in the state this year, you obviously don't embrace the president and his agenda," Thune told reporters at the National Press Club. He said the Iraq war is Bush's biggest problem."

I don't want this to slide too far down the page. I'm anxious to hear the explanation for how this upright, fine man, a hero, is apparently recommending that Republicans distance themselves from Bush to get re-elected. I'm sure I must be missing something.

no different than people not wanting Clintons help in getting elected. except Bush has a war on his hands, Clinton was just a perverted old hounddog who couldn't keep his pants tied up.

you follow the party, but look out for yourself. pretty simple, but then I would not expect an ignorant lib like yourself to be able to see the simple truth, you need to find the mud and manure to drag MY President through....... you make me sick.

We all trusted that Pres. Bush had all his ducks in a row before he went to Iraq. We are finding out that some of this was not true.

There is only so much that rhetoric can do. After that it is results that count.

I totally support the war effort, but the incompetence of the war parallels the republican administration's incompetence at the USDA and GIPSA.

I just saw former house speakers Newt Gingrich and Tom Foley on CNN. Both of them were talking about the Congress's rubber stamp for the president and how bad it was for the country. I couldn't agree with them more. Issues need thought and thought only comes with critical review. Pres. Clinton used the opposition in govt. to hash out the issues. President Bush's plan has been to dismiss them out of hand with no benefit. It is a wrong way to run the government and throws all the collective wisdom out for political self interest designed by Karl Rove et al.

It is no way to run a democracy and John Thune, to his credit, recognizes it.

We have relegated our national interests to benefits of the globalists and against our own self interest. It is about time the Congress started to govern instead of handing it all over to the competence or incompetence of one man. Bush is not a good idealogue, he just isn't smart enough.

A perverted old hound dog who left us with a mostly peaceful world and the largest Federal surplus in memory. The "war" in Iraq is a war of Bush's choosing, I know it, you know it and the American people know it. It's not an excuse for anything. The Afghanistan war, you do remember Afghanistan, the home of Osama Bin Laden, who is still wandering around laughing at us, is not going well. The Taliban are making a comeback while our troops are tied down in Iraq. The President of the country has asked for more troops. Don't you think our enemies are watching that?

What a shocking post.
"Look out for yourself." Surely John Thune, hero, wouldn't be so callow as to turn his back on President Bush's policies simply to get re-elected, or to suggest others do the same thing! I'm shocked, I tell you, shocked. Of course Democrats did that, but Republicans claim to be a better bunch. They claim to stick by their values, beliefs no matter what. They don't pay attention to polls, etc. Now you seem to be telling me they're no better than the Dems. Shocking!

I'll try to keep this at the top of the page until I hear from Thune's admirer on this board. I'm sure she'll have a better explanation than that he's simply playing politics. You know that he's a hero? A hero would never, ever turn his back on his beliefs and values. Shame on you for suggesting such a thing. :D

Peaceful becuase why DIS? He had no balls to do anything against Bin Laden or Sadam, for fear it may hurt his future after the whitehouse!!! He had many chances to do what needed to be done as did Bush SR, to bad it took Bush Jr and his set of gonads to do something about these US haters before it got trully bad here in the US you fool!

Billy also gave us the highest tax rates we have ever seen in our country, who couldn't make a surplus doing that? All the while allowing SS to flounder down hill, he didn't give a rip he knew it would be long after his terms as Pres. Instead we all sat around in a fantasy world stating "It takes a Village to raise a family" Kumbia Dis! Then we sit back and wrake in the added millions to billions of tax revenue and take from SS early on in his career as Pres and boy we are doing things right! We have a balanced budget and surplus and the tax payers keep on forking it out, at rates never seen before. To state it all came from the wealthy is pure bunk as I'm not wealthy and paid out the A** in taxes under your great leader Billy boy! He wouldn't have known what to do if president when 9/11 happened he would have taken the duck and run as always.

A friend was a Navy Seal durring the 80's and stayed until Bill came to office and seeing how that administration wanted to do things, he took retirement 1 year after Bill Clinton was our pres and the "TRUE" storys he could tell you about Mr Clintons lack of Leadership and miliatry prowess made him sick.

You keep going to Iraq as Bushes war, did not congress grant him the authority to go to war? Yes I knwo they where all duped with the extra confidentail real intteligance the Bush clan had LOL!!! Yet many others could see the same thing huh? People like you are the ones Bin Laden and Sadam love Dis, those that will lay back and take the beating for fear of causing conflict. I would love to have a crystal ball and see where we as Americans would be with thinking like yours and the fearless leadership of one William Jefferson Clinton?

I say we'd be better off, but that's an opinion. And speaking of opinions, Americans by 2-1 margain say Clinton was a better President than Bush. Clinton even bested, or at least tied, Bush on honesty! My, how far he's fallen. Entire article; link below; my emphasis.

"In a new poll comparing President Bush's job performance with that of his predecessor, a strong majority of respondents said President Clinton outperformed Bush on a host of issues.

The poll of 1,021 adult Americans was conducted May 5-7 by Opinion Research Corp. for CNN. It had a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

Respondents favored Clinton by greater than 2-to-1 margins when asked who did a better job at handling the economy (63 percent Clinton, 26 percent Bush) and solving the problems of ordinary Americans (62 percent Clinton, 25 percent Bush). (Watch whether Americans are getting nostalgic for the Clinton era -- 1:57)

On foreign affairs, the margin was 56 percent to 32 percent in Clinton's favor; on taxes, it was 51 percent to 35 percent for Clinton; and on handling natural disasters, it was 51 percent to 30 percent, also favoring Clinton.

Moreover, 59 percent said Bush has done more to divide the country, while only 27 percent said Clinton had.

When asked which man was more honest as president, poll respondents were more evenly divided, with the numbers -- 46 percent Clinton to 41 percent Bush -- falling within the poll's margin of error. The same was true for a question on handling national security: 46 percent said Clinton performed better; 42 percent picked Bush.

Clinton was impeached in 1998 over testimony he gave in a deposition about an extramarital sexual relationship with White House intern Monica Lewinksy. He was later acquitted by the Senate."

George W. Bush would give his right hand for poll numbers like Clinton's. :D And the Republicans running for re-election would probably help cut it off.

Well, I’ll be doggoned!! Does this mean you’ve missed me dis? I’m touched.

I’m not surprised at your choice of links for this story though. CBS. Hmm, let’s see - if I remember right, CBS stands for Complete Bull S***, right? Yup, the home of Dan I’d Rather Lie Than Tell The Truth. You’ve really got to be careful what you swallow from the liberal drive by media, old pal.

Here’s a little blip for you dis: Appearing today on FOX News radio's "Brian and the Judge" show, Thune said he was shocked at that story — and accused the reporter of "cherry-picking the comment" out of context. Thune said he respects and supports the president, adding that he was merely advising Republicans not to let the Democrats make every local election a referendum on President Bush.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, I brought this unanswered question back to the top for you. You must have just overlooked it, huh?

Now dis, not to change the subject or anything, but is there anything you believe in and support? I honestly can't recall you EVER supporting anything on this board, outside of being a cheerleader for the liberals. Do you stand for anything at all? Is there anything you would be willing to die for to defend? Just curious...

It's really hard to disavow something said at a the National Press Club. Let's see a link to the FOX radio show. BTW, I'm ROTFLMAOing at the spot Thune chose to deny the story. Don't like CBS. OK, here's ABC, http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/wireStory?id=2214047, Washington Post, http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/07/19/AR2006071900974.html and several other organizations carried the story. You can just about take your pick. I wouldn't be surprised if NewsMax even had it. It's big news when John Thune, hero, says he'd distance himself from Bush if he was running for office! What he said is public record. Now he wants to complain his comments were cherry picked, that's ok. I guess this "hero" doesn't have the guts to a. stand by his comments, or b. go to CBS, ABC, Washington Post, and ask for a retraction. Instead he runs to the Republican media, FOX. :D

Dis you are a red blooded DEM aren't you? Do you think George Bush gives a tinkers damn about polls? If he did he wouldn't have made the hard choices through out his term in office!!!
A good Dem though will back peddle and slide and worm their way about to try and keep all happy and worrys about there "OWN" future and not the country. Case in point J Kerry," I voted for the war before I voted against it". Billy Clinton, " I did not have sexual relations with that woman". Now lets split hairs on what a sexual relation is shall we? I'm willing to bet his behavior would find himself divorced from let's say 97% of the mattied woman in America? Hillary not being able to find the paperwork and documentatrion on white water?
I'll give Mr Bush all the credit in the world because he stands up for and does what he trully feels will help the majority and doesn't give a crap about polls, a rare breed in my book. ALL presidents ahve made mistakes, hell look at vietnam! We are all human and as long as that person is looking out for the best interest of the country and not party gain or personnel gain, I can respect them.
