He didn't get a tag when he was born, and I wasn't able to figure out his mother when we were sorting steer calf pairs earlier this spring.

Birds on the wire. This cage is in the tank to keep cattle from crawling in. The birds seem to like to perch upon the wires.

Those bales in the meadow sure look good. :D

I took Dad to the top of the hill to look out across the meadow. We determined that the bales don't look as pretty as the big haystacks used to look, kind of like Angus cattle aren't as pretty as the Herefords that used to adorn the hills. Times change though.

I agree about the stacks, but those bales still look pretty good. I really appreciate the picture of Kosmo's digs. Real pretty place to call home! I figure that Dad must live in the other house in the background. Thanks! Jan is really the one that wants the coffee cake recipe (and I would like for her to have it also!!)

Cows and calves; grass and hay looks good.

That's a nice setting where Kosmo and his bride now live.
Where on your ranch is that and what is the big looking
house in the background?

Having them there seems like a win-win situation for all.
You are lucky to have them and they are lucky to be there! :)

I wonder if all the bird droppings in the tank would encourage cocciddiosis problems? I threatened to do that on a big tank I have after a calf got knocked in and drowned because he couldn't get out.

Enjoyed the pictures, Soapweed. Looks like you got your hay up in great shape. 1/2 of our first cutting got washed off to the tune of 5 inches :( :( Your calves are looking good as well. Thanks for the tour :D

I'll sure be happy to see my hay up in bales...Should be dry enough to start swathing Monday- BUT the weather boys are saying a large amount of tropical moisture moving in Monday and probable for more rain...

You are right, Dad and his bride live in the far house.

Here is the recipe:

Sara Lee Coffee Cake

1 box of yellow cake mix
1 box instant vanilla pudding mix
4 eggs
3/4 cup vegetable oil
3/4 cup water
Mix and beat for eight minutes, then add 1 tablespoon butter extract and 1 tablespoon vanilla.
Add 1/4 cup nuts
Make separate mix
1/2 cup sugar
1 tablespoon cinnamon
Put 1/2 batter in pan 9" x 13"
Put cinnamon and sugar mix in middle over first half of batter, then spread second half of batter on top.
Take a knife and swirl through the batter.
Bake for at least 30 minutes, until toothpick comes out clean.
Add icing--1 cup powdered sugar and 1 tablespoon butter extract, 3 tablespoons milk, 1/2 tablespoon vanilla--while cake is still hot.
Ring dinner bell.
Serve to hungry constituents. :cowboy:
