It rained Aug 5 so we went to Williams Lake for groceries and parts. The city is somewhere down there in the smoke.

Sunset Aug 10 while the fires were died down from the rain we had.

A couple of hot days and a little wind and we were back to smokey days. Visibility Aug 14 was between 1 and 2 miles.

Sun at 2 PM on Aug 14.

Wild redtop and a few other grasses mixed in.

Not a bad crop in this spot, there just haven't been many "spots". :?

This meadow is nearly all Meadow Foxtail, about 60% of last year on this field.

Another day another field, one side not bad.....

.......the other side not good...

Heckman Pass fire, Aug. 18. We have now had two days of showers/rain.
The fires will be out if this weather lasts all week like the forecast predicts. We are in bale wrapping mode now.

For a couple of days we were down to a half mile of visibility. There is plenty of fuel in your world to keep em burning. Rick came home from his cabin a shared lots of photo's and stories. A few inches of rain over a few days might help out the situation.

Is his cabin close to any fires up there?

I think the closest one is 15 miles or so but they are on both sides. He said he pumped lake water the whole time he was up trying to keep things wet. I think he is on Unsha(sp) on the NW side.

I'm thinkin' Uncha lake ?. He wouldn't be far from the Binta Lake fire if thats where he is.
I might know who Rick is. Does he come here quite often? I know of a Rick from southern AB thats up here a lot. If its the same person, seen him at Takysie Lake the other day in the store.

Great pics Gcreek. Got some rain here yesterday and its raining again today. Sure is nice to see!! :D :D

We have both types of Meadow Foxtail, a little timothy and the wild hay varies from redtop to bluejoint to ripgut with a few others in between.

gcreekn nice gate and nice pics, thanks for posting! That smoke must get a bit much after a while. We had a few real smoky days visibility down to 1 and 1/2. Hope you get more rain. It won't quit raining here which is fine still have about 500 acres of hay to get up. My mantra has been at least we have hay to put up. Ours isn,t cutting as pretty as yours I have never had a hay crop laying down before, need a pickup reel for the first time in my life. :D

Things look pretty prosperous down your way gcreek. Nice full swaths like that are just a distant memory. I would have even welcomed some more of that foxtail this year.

Did you not notice the scant little fluff in the discbine pic? Come for a visit Silver, I'll show you another ranch that is for sale here.

You won't get any closer if you don't start driving.

We have about 350 acres yet to cover, 100 of that is the meadow at the Rez. It is smooth and basically rockless.

a smooth and basically rockless field??? you must be livin right. :D whiile we don't have to many rocks to contend with, it might be worth the drive to run on a smooth field. but ya better just get started without me, the combiners rolled in last night so it will be a few days before i can get there.

I've got some of that Redtop never knew what it was called. Most likely get baled in late November if the snow stays away. Turned the discbine down to a 2" cut and sharpened up the knives. What do you do for mud on the highground it's terrible I've got deep rut's on the highground today. Still better than a drought though. That smoke would kill me I can't handle smoke very well.
