Right. Let’s just scrap FMEA. An agency that has worked well for lots of years. Just because the Bush Administration appointed incompetents to run it, let’s scrap it and spend a few billion$$ building something else. Unreal. Link below; my emphasis.

“Hurricane Katrina’s latest fatality should be FEMA, the nation’s disaster response agency, a Senate inquiry concluded in calling for a government overhaul to avoid future failures like those the devastating storm exposed.
Eighty-six recommendations by the bipartisan panel indicate the United States is still woefully unprepared for a storm of Katrina’s scope with the start of the hurricane season little more than a month away.
The new authority would be “better equipped with the tools to prepare for and respond to a disaster,” said Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, who led the inquiry by the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.”

"T" right on this one...IMHO!

And be glad a ' disaster' hasn't happened in MT and FEMA hasn't crapped on your head and left you to fend for yourself!

You gotta admit.....it's a mess...and behind every mess seems to lurk the name Halliburton!!

you can say all you want. If your darling Hildabeast was in charge and that happend under her watch, you would blame officials in LA......like it really should be. There were more that dropped the ball than just fema....try the democrat gov of LA and the flippin mayor if you want to point fingers. I am not saying that mistakes were not made because they were, but fingers need to be pointed towards LA..........where the dems have control!

WHOA SDH....I'm not praising anyone either.....FEMA's been a train wreck to various degrees for YEARS. BUT.....what do you replace it with?

You can't just wipe out something THAT HUGE---be it good or bad--- in one fell swoop.

A lot of fingers need to be pointed...that's right...but you MUST admit that Bush has to appoint people who at least have a minor idea of what they need to do and the training to do the job at hand, not just a buddy....like " Brownie" .

They --FEMA--do have their good points....and could probably take care of small issues...but when an organization is that big for that long...too many people get their hands in the pot!!!

FEMA- before that DES (Disaster and Emergency Services) have historically been a bureaucratic disaster... Having worked with both they were so overloaded with paperpushing jobs and little actual emergency situation knowledge in the administration....Guidelines that cost millions $, which could have been saved if a few thousand $ was spent earlier....

Personally I think much of these duties should go back to the states and the state Disaster director...Give them more authority in using National Guard and getting access to federal equipment- Have each state build its own disaster fund (then I won't have to fund to find San Francisco when it falls into the ocean  )...Probably won't happen as the Feds never want to give up any bureaucratic control they get- just want to expand on it...One of the reasons I hate to see a National Animal Identification System come to be-- rather see it stay with the states.....

How can you just **** can fema and start another agency. Basically you can call it what you want, its still fema.....You can dress the pig in whatever you want, its still a pig.

I honestly feel like Brownie got the shaft. I think he took the fall for alot of things he shouldnt have.

Anyone ever wonder where FEMA was this last week in Western South Dakota, or the weekend after Thanksgiving in Eastern South Dakota when several thousands of people were stranded, and without power in blizzards and ice storms?..I for one was stranded in my home town in SD over that weekend, without power, for 3 days, (many people almost 2 weeks or more) I for one doubt any of us complained that FEMA didnt come to our rescue, or give us $2000 debit cards.
