Say a lil prayer ya'll. Mr Lilly just called me, to tell me that he's out on the man hunt. 2 inmates overpowered an officer, takin the guns. Then they stole a city pickup and ran over a female officer on her horse and killed her. They caught one inmate soon after it happened, but the other one got away and has a rifle with 15 rounds.
I hate these deals, he hasn't had to go out on many of them, but never a fun time to go thru. Makes it all the more special when he walks in the door from work.

I haven't heard anything about the horse. All the news is sayin is that she was on her horse when he ran over them. They aren't releasin her name as of yet either. Mr Lilly worked 10 years at the Unit where this happened....so he may know her.

He's Caught!

and now...the rest of the story....(I feel like Paul Harvey LOL)

After escaping they made their way to a bank, which they robbed, and hurt (I don;'t know how bad) another lady officer. She was there doin her banking. (Probably wearin her Uniform....prime reason one rule is that you don't wear your uniform outside of work) They stole her truck and used it to go to Walmart.
Anyway....then off to walmart they went.....and stole a beer truck. I'm not sure yet at what point the first inmate was caught.....but the second one with the rifle was caught off in a creek on the outskirts of town.

They said Huntsville looked like a ghost town. No one comin or goin. Everyone stayin put so that they weren't in the way. Nice that they do that and let the authorities do their job.

Thanks ya'll for the prayers.....ya'll must be some powerful prayers too...got him caught quick. Mr Lilly is on his way back to the Unit, and will soon be on his way home.

I hope thay get to ride the lighting

HUNTSVILLE, Texas -- Two prison inmates working in a field stole a vehicle and ran over a guard Monday, killing her and sparking an intense manhunt that lasted more than three hours before they were caught, KPRC Local 2 reported.

Department of Public Safety officials said prisoners Jerry Martin and John Ray Falk escaped from the Wynne Unit at about 10:30 a.m.

Martin, 37, and Falk, 40, were working in a field at the prison along Interstate 45 when they apparently overpowered an officer supervising them, took her weapons and stole a Huntsville city vehicle that was nearby.

Texas Department of Criminal Justice spokeswoman Michelle Lyons said the guard, Susan Canfield, 59, was run over during the escape. She died at the scene.

Falk was caught within an hour after the escape, but Martin remained on the loose for more than three hours before he was apprehended shortly before 2 p.m. near Smither's Road. Authorities said he was hiding in a tree.

Texas Department of Criminal Justice officials said the stolen vehicle was abandoned and recovered.

Investigators said the men also carjacked a woman outside a Guaranty Bank. Her red pickup truck was found a short time later.

At least one shotgun the officer was carrying had not been accounted for, Lyons said.

Armed prison officers on horseback and aided by barking bloodhounds were involved in the search for Martin, along with numerous other state and local law enforcement agencies. A state police helicopter also combed the site.

Martin has been serving a sentence of 50 years since 1997 for two counts of attempted capital murder in Collin County.

Based on his good disciplinary record in prison, Martin was classified as a minimum security inmate and assigned to do field work outside the prison under the supervision of officers.

"He will be facing felony escape charges at the very least" Lyons said. She said Martin did not appear to be hurt.

According to a report published in the Dallas Morning News in 1994, Martin fired a .38-caliber revolver at several sheriff's deputies and state troopers during a standoff.

Falk has been serving a life prison sentence since July 1986 after being convicted of murder out of Matagorda County.

The Wynne Unit, established in 1883, is one of the oldest in the Texas prison system. It holds about 2,600 inmates of various custody levels. The unit is about 80 miles north of Houston and shares about 1,500 acres with two other prisons that straddle the main freeway between Houston and Dallas.

Canfield had been a correctional officer for about seven years.

When I saw this flash on the news....I thought that you had said that Mr. Lily worked at the prison...and that was my first thought.

Glad they caught him. Soooo bad for the officer.

They should have shot both of those SOB's rather than capturing them and putting them back in prison. At least Texas has a strict death row policy.

It is exactly this type of incident that supports the argument for the death sentence for this type of criminal.
Jersey lilly, so pleased your hubby is safe, our family prayers are with the family of the other officer.

The death of a correctional officer during an escape falls under the felony murder rule-- and both of them are considered just as quilty- and just as executional... :D :D

We in corrections are often considered the arm-pit of law enforcement. In events like this it's nice to see so many caring people and not one negative comment.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the officers family. She lost her life protecting others, and she will be remembered.

I know Oklahoma is in the process of building a memorial for correctional officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty. Does Texas have anything like this?

Glad everything turned out well for you and your husband, Jersey Lilly. I'll bet it was quite nerve-wracking for a while. Our prayers go out to the family of the lady officer who was killed. There is no excuse for behavior of this type from the criminals, and the authorities need to throw the book at them now that they are captured.
