I've been havin a lil issue with my computer, it's only runnin at 16 kbps. Think the modem is goin out. So if I, for some reason don't take care of the photo contest, that means it went belly up. I have high speed satellite on order...should have it up and goin sometime at the end of next week.

Our provider is one out of College Station. dial up. That's all we've ever been able to get. But I found a high speed satellite company that we are able to get.....FINALLY!!!!

I talked to them today...our provider.....tech support. And that's what they said...that it's most likely the modem goin out. They don't put good modems in these new computers basically for the simple reason that so many people use the high speed and never us a modem. So for $253 then a mail in rebate of $100 it'll end up costing $153 to get set up with it....and we own the equipment. That's including the activation fee, the free installation kit, and $49 shipping. So that's not a bad deal. Then the monthly fee is $29.95. Bout $10 more than we are payin now. We needed to do this anyway, because Lil Lilly hasta turn in college work online, and it takes nearly 3 hours to get the pages to load that she hasta go thru to get it turned in.

You have over 7500+ post on ....dial up? Wow. You have far FAR more patience than me.

That being said, I'm using an air card from the ranch....but it is very painful.

We tried the air card from AT&T a while back...when it worked it was great.....that is WHEN.....ended up gettin our money back on that thing.

Wildblue is here.....but they are "full" and not taking on any new customers.

Normally it's not that slow. Uploadin photos is kinda a pain, but not too bad...until lately since the modem is goin out.

Connection at 16 kbps this last week has been a headache to even try to be online.

Right now I'm connected at a blistering 30.6 kbps.     Needless to say, youtube is out of the question. I've got an accelerator program that helps a bit, but it's still like watching paint dry some times.

Satellite high speed here is about $60.00 a month, so I'm resisting as long as I can, and hoping a miracle happens and someone cheaper gets into the business.

Mine is 28kbps,and I just cringe when people post a ton of pics in their threads, and as for youtube...NO WAY!!

We just got pamphlet in our gas bill that they're going to offering high speed and if we would be interested...Helll YA

There are lots of web pages I can't even open because dial-up isn't compatible

521kbps on satellite...was 40kbps on dialup

Per, did you really mean 54 mbps? Isn't that REALLY fast?

Yep that is really fast. It is a dish to a tower about 8 miles away using radio wave. It can be even a little faster if we hooked direct to the Ethernet cable but with multiple computers we use a router which seem to slow it down a bit. Our backup is dial up at 28.8 kbps, Mbps is light speed faster.

I checked on getting wireless...was supposed to be 1.5 mbps. Could get a signal but barely. About 3 months after we signed a two year contact for the satellite internet...someone put up a tower about 12 miles away...and I know the wireless people will use it...darn it.
