A friend of ours has a daughter who attended MSU in Missoula, Mt.
last year. She is in the process of transferring to another school.
In visiting with her parents I found out this interesting bit of
information. If their daughter (who is very smart and very talented)
would, as a Gay Rights Activist, organize a miniumum of 4 Gay Rights Demonstrations, her entire schooling would be paid for.

She declined saying, "My soul is worth more than that."

So the next time you see a demonstration, KNOW where they
got some of the support. YES, some WILL sell their soul.

Yeah...by whom?

I know one of the dean's there.

What she planning to major in? Which school of study?

I'll email and ck on this deal. Why would a state college pay out money like that? Makes no sense or part of the story is missing.

Good question. I doubt if it is the college that is paying, I'm sure it
is the activists that are paying.

I'll check and get back to ya all.

My friend the dean asks how do you get this deal? ( He asked this AFTER he quit laughing)

Says he knows LOTS of kids that need school paid for to clear up their debt to the school for loans , etc., and he'd be happy to paint their marching signs for them if it will get them some money!!!

So much for that I suppose!! Sounds like a great idea, if it WERE true, to get some $$$$ for school. Safer than some of the stuff the kids do now days to get money for school!!! A little marching for a little money!!

While I have not heard of that from my son's university...but some of his scholarships did have community and activity requirements..and one was from a local group that I did question thier motives and he turned down...

(it essentially said for him to tell prison youth he was a success and he could mentor them.)

so he would have to write at least one letter a week to a prisoner...all for $250...

I did hear that Answer had buses running and was offering a $100 in cash to go to DC for thier last protest....(supposedly for meals)..

and of the one Kid who accepted said all he got was a bag lunch with stale chips and generic soda....

Many activist groups target these kids who while quite smart are, not alwas the brightest when it comes to those manipulating them..

and a scholarship seldom is "full" and seldom do they actually accept all the applicants...add in that some promise alot but end up offering little.....

A friend of my sons was offered a "full schoalrship with an internship",...in writing....she worked her Junior / Senior year summer, for the group in Baltimore and stayed in a dump with thirty other teens. and was to go back this last summer....

all she recieved was a letter saying thier funding ran out...

So not only beware of the liberals,...but beware of the liberal activists promising a "so-called" free education....

Moral of the story...they (liberals) are out there targeting your children so stay involved and help them with thier scholarship paperwork.

BTW Kola can you get my son a discount..He is at Lehigh...and we be poor folk, who don't know no deans or other important people...

College Roundup: Middlebury to aid gays in admissions
Issue date: 10/25/06 Section: Campus Watch
PrintEmail Article Tools Page 1 of 1 An official from Middlebury College announced earlier this month that the school plans to give gay applicants a leg up in the admissions process for the first time this year, assigning them a designation similar to that afforded to "members of ethnic minority groups, athletes, alumni children and others," according to an Oct. 9 Inside Higher Ed article.

The policy is believed to be the first of its kind, according to the article.

Shawn Rae Passalacqua, an assistant director of admissions, told Inside Higher Ed that Middlebury attempts to avoid selecting an incoming class that is "too homogenous," noting that gay students bring "a unique quality" to the student body. Five of the 6,200 applicants to the college last year "noted their gay identities in their application essays," while "50-plus applicants cited their membership in gay-straight alliances," according to the article.

Middlebury's announcement has triggered responses from those who hope other colleges and universities will institute similar policies as well as others who believe such a policy may be difficult to implement.

Greg McCandless, associate director of admission at Harvey Mudd College, located in Claremont, Calif., told Inside Higher Ed he believes "there's a case to be made" for giving gay students an advantage during the admissions process. An official from Claremont McKenna College, also located in Claremont, said he would like to see that school adopt a policy similar to Middlebury's.

However, a high school counselor interviewed by Inside Higher Ed noted that gay students can often apply to schools without referencing their sexual orientation, a fact that calls into question whether such policies are necessary.

The Harvard Crimson criticized Middlebury's policy in an Oct. 13 staff editorial.

"Sexual orientation isn't a straightforward proposition; moreover, unlike race, geography, or socioeconomic background, sexuality is inherently private," according to the Crimson. "These factors can create perverse incentive structures under a college admissions system in which gay students are rewarded for publicly announcing their sexual orientation."

According to Bruce Lindstrom, interim executive director and founder of the Point Foundation, which gives scholarships to gay students, "Students must … qualify academically, but diversity of society is part of understanding society." But Lindstrom "stopped short" of advocating a policy like Middlebury's, according to Inside Higher Ed.

I guess if you're queer , they'll give you a free education and if you're a child molester or a rapist, they'd let you teach. Reckon?

These would be diversity grants/scholorships.. Sometimes very small but sometimes pretty sizable. I knew a few folks from Northwestern that got them. one was for being rural, one was inner city and a few were nationality based.. Most were economic based but they really did try to have as diverse a student populaton as possible and would work for it with these grants.... I don't remember any bigala ones but it would hardly surprise me... Althought at NU I would imagine it would have been privately funded or funded through the university by a speical donation earmarked for it.
