Just Wondering and Why

How many of you most frequent posters on here have let your name stand for any government positions from municipal to civil to state. This forum seems to be a mechanism for labelling and belittling. There isn't one political idealogy that is wrong in every instance or right all of the time. Every United States president from George Washington on up has been reviled and hated by a large number of the populace much is the same here in Canada. Something must be going write once in awhile or we wouldn't be the best two places in the world to live. Alot more would get accompolished on this form is we all took an adult pill before posting on here and left the sandbox stuff to the kids. kind of in a good mood this much maligned Canada Health care system hasn't gotten me yet.Back to the title of this post-if some of you feel so fervently about the future of your country-run for office-if you don't like the state of your health care system-join the health district board-if you think your kids football coach is a retard get involved. if you don't your not a part of the solution but a bigger part of the problem. Inactive complainers are a cancer no matter where you live or what political affiliation you are.

I'd do that here, but I'm probably pushing the envelope as it is.

What I'm getting at is if your country and way of life is sliding into peredition-there hasn't to be a more effective way of saving it than playing hide and seek with made up names on a chat forum. by the way Cory Wilson, Meadow Lake, sask. if you aren't man or woman enough to put your name behind your thoughts your thoughts don't count for much.

NR, very good points. You don't have to run for office, but you can visit your congressperson, visit your state legislator, talk to them about things that you believe in and about laws you want to see changed or passed. And you can make a difference. You can attend public hearings and ask questions and speak out. You can talk to the media. You can help get laws passed or amended.

There is a lot one can do instead of complaining or simply protesting.

Reader I have to say this you must be drunk. People who wish to participate have been excluded beat up and locked out of town halls. They have been told they have no say it dont matter what they think on more than one occasion. They have been told I AM THE CONGREESMAN OR WOMAN AND WHAT YOU THINK DONT HOLD WATER.

This is just one of the things Americans are upset with if money is not passed or we are not aligning our thinking with the powers that be or world opinion it flat out dont matter.

Cory, you know who I am. Since I have been threatened, intimidated, and called "corrupt" since hypo learned my name accidentally and passed it along in PMs, I am loathe to share it with others frankly.

In the past, I shared who I was freely. Several here have my email and have spoken with one of my family even and that includes liberals, moderates and conservatives.

Now I am a woman and should be more cautious therefore. I wish this were not the case.

Not sure what Sandhusker or Pig Farmer are afraid of.

I'm not afraid of anybody here, and you can find out who I am fairly easliy. I've had several posters call me out of the blue. The problem is that there are a few complete insane a-holes out there who you simply can't trust.

Got some literacy problems too I see Pig Farmer-my name and hometwon is posted in this thread-just left you with some food for thought on how things get accomplished-use them as you will. dispensing grade school name calling and bitterness isn't doing much.

Personally, I do not see what putting my name up here, so people can google my address, etc. will do for any of the triteness that has been (probably will be) thrown around. I guess I have to go with my gut and say that if there was someone who really wanted to know my name, address, etc. they can PM me. I do understand what you are saying, NR, but I think past actions have already made many people leary--me included, because there has been personal info used in the name of trying to win an argument--probably on both sides. I teach my kids not to put their name out there, and I guess I will practice what I preach. If that makes my opinion any less valuable, than so be it-- :D

Just like you wouldn't walk up to a stranger and tell them your name, where you live, where you go to school or give them your phone number, you shouldn't share this kind of information on-line either. It is very important that you don't e-mail or instant message anyone that you don't know or share any information that can identify you. Don't put your picture on the Internet unless you are e-mailing a friend or family member. If you are talking to a stranger, you have to be really careful because there are adults who take advantage of young people.

Remember:

Don't give out credit card information over the Internet. Believe it or not, it's really easy for someone to steal your money this way.

Don't e-mail your photo or any information that identifies YOU.

Never give clues about yourself, where you live, where you work, where you hang out with your friends, where you shop etc.

Never, ever share your name, address, phone number, etc.

This is from a site that recommends you DON"T give out information about your self on line.

There are hundreds more sites that say basically the same thing so there must be some merit in keeping some information to your self!!!

While some of you do not care about your privacy some of us do it is easy to garner information about people, even their private life if one so decides.. That has been proven on here!
That overrides some trumped up "NOT A MAN" unless you post private information in my mind!

I therefore decline NOT to do so, as is my right!!!!

I've always posted my correct name and on my profile is my e-mail address and the name of the town I live in...

I've visited some of the posters on here (including Sandhusker) and have had my and my wife's photo posted.. and I just posted one the other day..

but in case any one missed it.. or doesn't want to bother looking it up.. Steven , Wildwood New Jersey.. Never been one for much anonymity, so I posted what was required in the profile.. and since I have come to respect you over the years,. I added my name to your list..

And with that done.. I do see your points.. and agree to a point.. this site used to be a fairly tight community.. and still is off PB... but over the years a few have come that I would just as soon never meet.. or have them know any of my business..

as for what I have done.. I write a few letters, send some e-mails and a few phone calls.. a few of my ideas have made it into law in New Jersey.

I am on a few boards.. I find most are just going through the motions and can't change much... or do much with the current rules, laws they are regulated under.. so often it feels like your just filling a seat..

I've been to two tea party protests.. just to add my self to the number..
I am not sure of the direction they will take, but hope they decide to push for term limits.,..

Yep- and even tho sometimes we disagree- I've always respected your comments and your right to have those opinions and to comment on them because of that....

I really really hope you would be right about the term limits--but I think the system and those in it from both parties are too deeply entrenched for them ever to pass a Constitutional amendment setting them....

I can't think of any legislative body that has set term limits upon themselves- it has always came by way of initiatives and referendums at the state level - which are not allowed under Federal Law...

I would bet after a "national" day of protest with MEGA HUGE unprecedented turnout.. it could pass..

by most poll accounts an overwhelming majority of Americans support congressional/senatorial term limits.
