How many of you feel safe when the US is spending billions of dollars on collecting intel and the Director of the CIA talks about finding out about an Allies President is stepping down through the media   .

About the same as when a US Secretary of Defense told Congress he wouldn't give them an answer "because it's not my business to do intelligent work". :p

if that is your take on the issue, while it is not the topic, I'll deal with it.

Q: What do you tell the members about the WMD issue and the concerns they might have about the intelligence?

Rumsfeld: That my observation on the intelligence although it’s not my business but I read it, is that it’s been good, it’s been enriched as they’ve gone through this past period of years and that I believe that the presentation made by Secretary Powell was accurate and will be proved to be accurate.

Q: Sir, do you think it makes sense for Congress to investigate (Inaudible.)?

Rumsfeld: I think Congress under Article 1 of the Constitution has an obligation to conduct oversight and it’s their call as to whether they wish to do that, obviously if they decide to do that we would certainly cooperate, General Myers is here as well. And I think they are discussing how they may or may not want to do that now, I don’t know. I don’t deal with the intelligence committees, I deal with the armed services committees.

Q: You oversee a lot of the intelligence community, would the DIA [Defense Intelligence Agency] etcetera, cooperate with a Congressional investigation?

Rumsfeld: Oh my goodness of course, we cooperate with congressional work all the time.

it appears when reading the whole transcript Rumsfield, when asked a question that should have been asked to the head of Intel, he politely deferred to them.. yet still answered the question.. to get your comment, you have to cherry pick two separate comments from two separate answers.. is that really honest?

now that that has been dealt with. care to stay on topic.. What do you think of the clueless idiot Obama placed in charge of Intel?

When the ranking Democrat on the House Armed Services Committee, Rep. Ike Skelton (Mo.), asked about the number of insurgents in Iraq, the secretary said, "I am not going to give you a number for it because it's not my business to do intelligent work." (He presumably meant to say "intelligence.")

“This is the director of intelligence of the global superpower and he is going on one of the most historic days in the Middle East – he is going around the world announcing that the guy in charge of U.S. intelligence is an idiot,” Steyn said. “A few weeks ago just before Christmas, he was oblivious to the biggest terror bust of the day.”

That terror bust he was referring to was in an interview Clapper conducted with ABC’s Diane Sawyer, which he said he was unaware of a London terror bust.

“He had no idea,” he continued. “And he looked like the deer in the [headlights]. And the trouble is, that’s the image of the United States as blundering tourists in a very dangerous region. They don’t know what’s going on. This guy has one of the most bloated, lavishly funded intelligence bureaucracies on the planet – the most bloated and lavishly funded and he’s an idiot. He can’t be allowed out in public. I mean, this is embarrassing for the superpower.”

while it is not a direct quote or even accurate..

actual transcript
REP. IKE SKELTON: As we all know, of course, American troops are still paying a deadly price. I hate to turn the radio on in the morning and listen to those reports. So may I ask: what is our current estimate of the size of the insurgent force, and how much uncertainty is connected with that estimate?

DONALD RUMSFELD: The intelligence community looks at that -- CIA does, DIA does, others do-- and they have differing assessments over -- at different times. And as you know, they're made up of former regime elements, Baathists, and they're made up of Zarqawi-type Jihadists and terrorists.

And they also include a varying number of criminals who are paid to do these things. And it's that aggregation that constitutes the insurgents. I am not going to give you a number for it because it's not my business to do intelligent's work.

the other part quoted in the piece wasn't even in the transcripts.. so is it really honest to only quote part of a statement and add a bit that was not even in the records?

but I am sure at that time you called for his head on a platter.. (care to go there?)

I really don't want to re-fight a battle well over six years old, do you?

again.. care to answer the question.. What do you think of the clueless idiot Obama placed in charge of Intel?

Once again, Oldtimer is made to look like a fool and an idiot. Doesn't he ever get tired of it?

I didn't intend on making OT look bad. I just want to know what he and the other "center left" posters think of Obmas' top idiot. It sure would be nice for them to be able to stick up for who they voted for instead of trying to blame Bush for the Obama admins current inability to form a sentence..

Here is another question for Oldtimer do you feel safe when the US spents billions on Intel and the Director of National Intelligence James Clapper winds up looking like a deer in the headlight when Diane Saywer asks him about one of the largest terrorist arrests in Britian? Shouldn't he know about of an large arrest of terrorists BEFORE THE MEDIA?

Just what are these agencies wasting their money on, as it sure doesn't seem to be up to date intel.

I don't figure you'll get an answer from OT, but he probably feels that the ATTF (Alcohol, Tobacco and Toy Firearms agency) is not a waste of money.
