Scores of rallies and vigils unfolded around the nation on Saturday, honoring 17-year-old Trayvon Martin and demanding a federal civil rights investigation into his death.
More than 100 cities were scheduled to hold “Justice for Trayvon" vigils, which the Rev. Al Sharpton announced Tuesday on the steps of the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington. Almost a week after a jury acquitted George Zimmerman of murder in the shooting death of 17-year-old Martin, the events in states including Alabama, North Carolina and Florida bore the semblance of a national movement. The National Action Network, Sharpton's civil rights organization, is hoping to build momentum for the filing of federal civil rights charges against Zimmerman.
Hundreds turned out for a noon rally in New York City, where Martin’s mother, Sybrina Fulton, spoke to the crowd. Martin's father, Tracy Martin, attended a vigil in Miami.
In downtown Los Angeles, about 400 people marched down Spring Street to continue a demonstration that began outside the federal building. Rallies were also planned in Riverside, Palmdale, Sacramento, San Francisco and Oakland.
I heard reports of the New York City protest where Sharpton, Trayvon's mother, Jay Z and Beyoncé were there speaking. had 200 in attendance. REALLY when two of the most popular in the music world were there with the so called victim's own mother and Sharpton could not get more than 200 in NEW YORK CITY to come out.
100 protests and the largest city in the US couldn't turn out more than 200, says a lot about the support of Sharpton and his race baiting protests have. But I'm sure he will blame it on the weather was too hot or the short time frame to get these rallies organized since it has only been a week since George was found NOT GUILTY.
As far as Sybrina Fulton I feel sorry for her that she is being used to push an agenda that had nothing to do with the death of her son. Zimmerman did not use STAND YOUR GROUND to defend himself he used SELF DEFENSE and when they had witnesses claiming Trayvon was sitting on George assaulting him, it is clear to see his defense was JUSTIFIED. But as a grieving mother she is not willing to admit her son had a part in his own death hence you have her being used by those trying to push their agenda.
Edit to update-- They just said the New York rally grew to 500 and the Miami FL. rally where Trayvon's dad was had another 500 and LA having between 300 to 400. Great turn out for an issue they are trying to use to rip a racial whole into the country  I hope Obama looks at the turn out and realizes the MAJORITY of the country don't care about this story as the family demanded a trial and they got it and the JURY heard the evidence and decided in George's favor and found Trayvon was at least in part RESPONSIBLE FOR HIS OWN DEATH THROUGH HIS OWN ACTIONS Whether the Racist Bailer believe it or not.
