now before everyone Thinks I have flipped...

consider this.. a 1% flat tax is not alot.. but it is a start to an easier fairer tax system.. once the camels nose is in the tent it would gradually over time be phased in..

a 1% flat tax hinged to a balanced budget would cause such a backlash that budgets would be balanced..

and liberals will always scream "tax the rich".. we just can't fix that..

You have flopped, Steve, and you are probably right about it being too complex for Congress to handle.

And, yes, Larry, it is a spending problem but it won't be solved as long as the rich get to get away without having to pay for it too. They have to have an interest in Congress following a budget instead of it constantly being put on the nation's future generations.

Tex

Tex, you are forgetting that taxes have already been raised. There are plenty of tax increases planned for the next few years.

The problem is any new revenue is considered by congress as the groundwork for a NEW program

Cut spending

I guess you are right, Larry, that is exactly what Bush and Greenspan did when the budget was just about balanced after Clinton.

if anything this tread has shown that even proposing to raise taxes is not enough for a liberal stuck on "tax the rich"

even when you basically side with a liberal and concede on raising taxes and closing loopholes, they still resort to insults.. :? :???:

Paul Ryan's plan cuts loopholes, set's a min. effective tax rate, raises revenue and the liberals were not happy with that either.

Larry you go and do that congress and the pres. wouldn't have to work but about 3 days a year. They'd have nothing left to do.
