I'm blacker than any pot or kettle on this stuff, but that's not the point.
If we are referencing the Bible, then let's reference the Bible:
“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47 And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
Kerry is obviously perverting the message when placing so much emphasis on the Earth, making it an idol while ignoring the entire purpose of the creation of the Earth- the people.
Kerry, though purposes not honest, is probably more correct than one might think in regards to Muslims. Islam is blasphemy and should not be condoned. But the Muslims are people. They are people that God created. Lost people that the Bible states He came back to reclaim and offer salvation. Lost people are lost people.
So what does to love mean? Or to love others as you love yourself. Who is your enemy?
I don't even like to think about it. These words are not for the feeble, and they are not natural. But that is probably where the rubber meets the road.
Easy to want a God that would reign down terror on your enemies. Not so easy to want a God that wants you to love them.
Easy to create in our own minds what we think God should be, or how he should react. Not so easy to mold our thoughts around him, when it's not how we think it should be.
If you read about Nineveh at the time He commanded Jonah to go there, there is no wonder Jonah went in the other direction as far as he could go. Nineveh was a place void of God, I very much imagine much like most of present day Libya, Iran, Syria. If I'm real honest with myself, I would be stride for stride with Jonah if asked to go to Syria. Only natural. And I don't want Syria coming here. To protect and love them when they want to kill me? Crazy talk, it's unnatural. But if we are going to invoke the language of the Bible, it says what it says. Kerry may have said something right, but not because of his intentions.
