Keystone XL Pipeline

Help Support Ranchers.net:

Montana's Governor was on Fox today and he was blaming the State of Nebraska for the delay and giving Obama a pass on the refusal. I decided to see why he might blame Nebraska other than the fact Nebraska has a REPUBLICAN Governor and he is a Democrap.

Keystone XL Pipeline Keystone XL Pipeline

Our need for energy is important to our daily lives and our economy and oil is among the energy sources that will help us meet this demand. An oil pipeline, known as the Keystone XL pipeline, has been proposed by TransCanada Corporation to deliver oil from its sources in Canada, Montana and North Dakota through Nebraska to refineries in Oklahoma and Texas. This pipeline has the potential to help our country meet our critical need for energy.

For more than a year, I repeatedly raised concerns about the original route of the pipeline that would have cut through the Sandhills and the Ogallala aquifer, posing a threat to our greatest natural resource. I'm not against oil pipelines or tar sands oil, but the original route was wrong. I am pleased that after hearing the concerns of Nebraskans, TransCanada agreed to voluntarily move the Keystone XL pipeline's route around the Sand Hills.

Now that my concerns with the route have been addressed, the Administration should approve the project. In November 2011, I offered my support to a bill that prevents unnecessary delays in the Keystone XL pipeline process. If enacted, the bill would direct the President to make a decision regarding the permit for the non-Nebraska portions of the Keystone XL pipeline within 60 days. If the President does not act, the permit would be granted by law. Also included in the bill is language that would require the President to approve a Nebraska route submitted by the Governor of Nebraska and require the State Department to support Nebraska efforts to identify an alternative route within our state. Nebraska would have as much time as is needed to complete the process in our state. This bill respects the Nebraska process to protect the Sand Hills while providing a commonsense approach to bring friendly oil and jobs to the U.S. without unnecessary delay.

It is clear that our country needs additional supplies of energy, so it is unfortunate that this pipeline approval was tangled up because of sloppy routing. We have many pipelines in Nebraska and I am pleased that our state helps to move much needed crude oil to refineries.

So when The Good Gov of Montana was claiming it was the state of Nebraska's fault that Obama turned down the pipeline was he really putting blame where it belongs or was he giving the President cover for the up coming election? :?

"The State Department runs this process, as you know, which is a precedent that long predates this administration. The delay in the review was a result of concerns in Nebraska about the route by which the pipeline was meant to take -- the route the pipeline was meant to take through Nebraska and how it would affect the aquifer there -- concerns that were expressed by a number of stakeholders there, including the Republican governor of Nebraska.

When the State Department decided that those concerns were legitimate and there needed to be an alternate route, that began another process, and this process requires the careful weighing of a variety of criteria, and that has always been the case.

Carney and Governor Schweitzer got this right when he said the hold came on because of the Nebraska NIMBY's.... The plan had already received tentative approval from the State Dept- and according to the executives that were here was on line to be approved-- until all the uproar came at the last minute from Nebraska landowners and Nebraska politicians...

New Route for Keystone XL Pipeline Nearly Done

BISMARCK, N.D.—An executive with a Canadian company attempting to build a $7 billion pipeline to carry oil from Canada to refineries along the Gulf Coast says a new proposed route will be proposed soon.

Speaking Wednesday in Bismarck, TransCanada Corp.'s Alex Pourbaix told North Dakota officials and oil industry representatives that the company would present its amended plan to federal regulators "in a matter of a very few weeks."

The U.S. government in November delayed a decision on granting a permit for Keystone XL, largely because of worries about the pipeline's environmental impact, especially in Nebraska.

The disputed route runs through six states from Canada to Texas. So-called feeder pipelines would connect the Keystone XL to the rich oil fields in North Dakota and Montana.

Tam-How do you approve a plan or a route that hasn't even been proposed yet :???:

As was brought up- the XL can resubmit their application for a permit- as soon as they get their plan done & come up with a proposal- and it has been able to be reviewed....

Approval without even the resemblance of a scientific/professional study would give the Nebraska NIMBY's and Greeny Weenies a free walk out of court with an injunction stopping the program...

Comical- you whine and bellyache about Obama when you think he is not following the rules/regulations and now that he follows the rules/regulations and long precedent of policy and procedure- and you whine about that...

all the scapegoating does not change the fact that obama had the authority to say yes or no, he chose to say no

If you follow your oath of office you can't say yes to a plan/route proposal that hasn't even been proposed yet...

That would be no different than a Judge deciding guilt or innocence without listening to any evidence...

and like I wrote the other night, they could have approved the portions that are not being changed. Work could have started at either end and by the time they approved the Nebraska, they'd be sitting at the Nebraska border, ready to work......

.....but that would not have met obama's goals in not approving the pipeline at this time......

.....this will lose him votes and not gain him any and that's why people like you are trying to make excuses for him......

Looks like the senator was saying OK the rest of the project and when they get to the Nebraska border the permits would be in place but Obama would rather toss the baby out with the bathwater to keep his campaign money rolling in. The Food Stamp President strikes again and Oldtimer is right there to defend him.

The route HAS been proposed. TransCanada HAS applied for a permit. Pinnichiobama isn't talking about not knowing the plan or route, he is saying that he hasn't had enough time to review.

The truth is that he feels that approval would hurt him politically, and there is no way that he will do anything to hurt himself politically, no matter if it is good for this country or not. That is what narcissists do.

Again- how do review and approve a route or plan/proposal that doesn't yet exist :???:

Like this:

But with state approval of an alternative route for the pipeline, there is no longer any reason to delay approval, according to the Institute for Energy Research's Tom Pyle:

"Now that Nebraska has provided a clear map to develop the Keystone XL pipeline in a way that avoids environmentally sensitive areas in the Sandhills region to the satisfaction of state regulators, the Obama administration must act immediately to authorize the pipeline's construction, which has now run up more than $1 billion in unnecessary costs due to bureaucratic delay," said Pyle, who is IER's president.

"....it's amended plan...." Those words right there tell that a plan has been submitted, or there would be nothing to amend.

If Oldtimer could dig a long hole as well as he digs himself into a deep hole in defence of Obama the pipeline could be done in record time

Yeah- they had a complete plan and proposal- which Nebraska landowners and all their politicians at the last minute objected to...

Now they have to find a new route- study it and see if it is workable- submit an amended plan/proposal - then have the State Dept study and review it... I believe part of that process also calls for more public hearings in the area of the new route they decide on to again give the public input...

Or do you believe the Nebraskans in the new route shouldn't be allowed input ?

I still think it will get approval- but probably not til 2013...

The concerns with Nebraska are history.

As I mentioned previously, if that lieing sack of crap that we got stuck with as president was genuine with his claims, he would be doing all that he could to make this deal work. He isn't.

Personally I believe the EPA should be done away with- and decisions made by the State EPA's-- but that would not remove the State Dept from the scenerio since this is an International/Interstate issue- which falls under Federal Authority...

Me, too. They left the reservation long ago.

And OT blames the EPA? WTF?

As a child we are taught to accept responsibility and not make excuses or blame others.. as a young adults that is reinforced.. and with a bit of character and fortitude we become responsible citizens by taking responsibility and not relying on excuses and pointing to others to blame

at least Bush had the character and fortitude to take credit for his decisions.. :?
