Well must be doing something right with the kids, my 11 year old daughter and 9 year old son got me the Bill O'Reilly Book on CD "Culture Warriors" they know I hate to read but drive a lot for work.

Son told wife he wanted to get me one of them Conservative guys books, "you know Shaun Hannity or Bill O'Reilly". So wife suggested in on CD to them.

The kids think that Liberals are the BoogyMan that will sneak into the bedroom and kidnap them if they do not keep the windows locked

Figured it is my job to get them heading down the right road it is up to them to stay on it.

Explained to them they can marry a person of any race, I will even love them if they turn gay on me. But do not come around if you go Liberal on me.

I guess great parents like you lie to their children. It amazes me how people like you can listen to a few of these right wing whacko talking heads everyday, get baffled by bullshit and then walk around pretending everything in the country is all right while you spout various right wing wacko sound bytes. It is truly amazing and sad at the same time.

I think the one thing here that is nice to see is that this family (no matter what political side you choose),seems to have a close bond....With all the problems today it is nice to see a story where the son talks to his mother about getting his father a gift he thought his dad would like.....I am not a fan of Bills and but this story is not about billy "O"....its about a family who spends an amout of time together that keeps them close and thinking of one another......I may rarely agree with aplusmnt on many issues, but it is nice to hear good stories about the small things that are bigger then we all realize....Nice job aplusmnt, sounds like you have raised a nice family there......My hope is you let your kids decide their own fates in life,it is never a good thing cast our own disslikes onto them.....

Bill O puts his own spin on things and then calls it the no spin. I like watching him because it is his own spin.

Aplus, I hope you raise kids who are smart enough to disagree when needed with the likes of Bill O and can still see his points.

This world isn't made out of one perspective, but it is often pushed that way.

The best we can do for our children is to give them enough tools to make good decisions instead of blindly following the leader of the day.

Thats the exact same thing Bill O accuses the public schools and universities of doing- giving only the Liberal side- instead of both sides and leaving the decision to the students...Both make for a very poor learning situation.....

That whole argument about teaching your kids both sides of a situation is stupid as it comes anyway. Should we teach them how to be dishonest and honest, so they can choose which they prefer? Should we teach them how to work and be lazy so they can choose which they like? Should we teach them the world is flat and round and let them choose which they believe? I teach my children what I think is right. Isn't that a parents job?
Maybe that's why we have so many stupid, lazy, dishonest, kids around ; their parents dont' instruct them at all but let them raise theirselves.

I view it as it is my responsibility to lead them down the proper roads of life. Not show them the good and bad roads and let them pick which one they want to go down. Have you ever heard that man is always inclined to do the bad, I believe bible even says it is not in mans ability to direct his own step due to his imperfections. In other wise you need to follow the road that most resembles the one Christ would follow. And I just could not see Christ heading down the Liberal road.

I will guide them in the right direction, then I will sleep at night knowing I did the best I could to push them in the right direction. And then just pray some Bad association that spoils useful habits like talked about in bible does not turn them Liberal

Funny thing is I know the Liberals think I spout off Conservative rhetoric like from Bill O'Reilly. But actually I have never saw him once on any show but Oprah a few weeks ago. I do not have Cable or Satellite TV so I only get the ABC, NBC and CBS regular network news.

I Have listened a little to Shaun Hannity on A.m. Radio but never saw Hannity and Colmes. Have listened some to Michael Reagan and rarely catch or listen much to Michael Savage.

When we moved to the country I got rid of Satellite TV and Video Games. Bought my kids, horses, motorcycles, basketballs, footballs, go carts, and anything that could be played outside with.

I would love to have those shows to watch but it is not worth the trade off of MTV and HBO etc....

Might be a hell of a culture shock when they get out there in the real world-- and find out there is whole other side and perspective to everything.... Kind of like some of the Nazi prisoners we had to deprogram at the end of the war- because they only knew the propaganda they had been fed since birth - didn't know anyone lived differently...

Maybe that's why we have so many stupid, lazy, dishonest, kids around ; their parents dont' instruct them at all but let them raise theirselves.

ok take religion for example....I may not practice my faith but i have my beliefs, would I be a better parent to start taking my child to church so he/she could learn for themselves about religion and there for as they grow older that they can decide on their own level of commitment.that they are willing to give.....Or do I just let them find out on their own cause i do not attend services, and tell them how boring i find it to be?...this is not a question of instilling morals, its a question of know all the information before one can make a educated choice...

Also all those things you mentioned you do teach them both sides....you teach them hard work gets you this..laziness get you this.....lying gets you this .......truth telling gets you this.........What you think is right can be bias.....would you think it ok to have a racist father raise his son to be a racist be cause the father thinks it to be right?......Seeing both sides through the hand of a parent is allot better than learning the other side of many decisions from others who care little about them....I think the right thing to do is love your child and step outside your comfort zone to show them the world rather than your little part of it.....again just my opinion...

That's real bright there oldtimer. Teaching your kids the truth is equated in your mind to the way the Jews were teated under Nazi Germany? You are one clever individual. Obviously someone failed to teach you logic. Can you pease tell me the dynamics that are contained in the proverbial " real world". You certainly wouldn't warn someone of an impending doom when getting to the "real world " without a clear thought on what the "real world " is would you OT? That wouldn't be very bright would it? That would just be warning someone of something you heard someone else say but you've never gave it a minutes thought. Go ahead and explain what you mean by the "real world" if you don't mind. If my kids need to carry certain carnal knowledge to enter the "real world" without harm, I want to know what it is.

Actually RR- Many of the German prisoners suffered culture shock when they were brought to areas like up here and put in POW work camps- they were put out working on farms and jobs- many with folks that were only 1 or 2 generation immigrants from Germany or Europe- and they found out we in the US weren't evil, or all degenerates as they had been told all their lives- and that they were treated nicely instead of what their handlers for life had told them...

As far as the facts of life or the real world, I'm afraid its a little late for me to be explaining both to you-- and unless you and a-minus homeschool, have your kids locked in a cellar, and no radio or tv- I'm sure they can, will, and are getting their own knowledge (however creditable  ) of the rest of the story--altho I preferred and encouraged my kids to discuss the info they learned from all sources to give them the pros and cons of both- and why I wanted them to follow certain beliefs...That is what allowing an educated decision is......

The "real world" is out there. Our perspective and explanation of it can be very different depending on where you stand and what you see.

The great thing about a working democracy is that what counts is people's perspective of the world around them, not what is thrust to them by the politicians of the day in their spiel.

I hope you teach your kids (if you have any) to tell the difference between a snow job and the truth.

I "trick" my kids all the time so they have to think about it. I do help them in doing that. Hence the quote on the bottom of my page, "What's the real truth, Dad?". I always give them a chance to see the truth themselves instead of it being told to them. It makes them more responsible thinking citizens. Something we desperately need in a democracy if we are to keep it.

Hmmmm the real world is unexplainable by you I guess. I can come to two conclusions . One is you have a small vocabulary and limited exposure to people that can express their ideas or two, you really don't know what the "real world" is but you've heard people say " when your kids get into the real world" and you've just took that to mean that there is a place they call the real world or a set of experiences everyone calls the real world so since other people say there is a "real world" you assume it's so. I've never been one to make decisions on what other people say . If you've got facts, bring them , other wise stick to something you know about.
