kids playing and getting something done

Here's a few from a branding a week ago. These kids have grown up and are becoming good hands and good help. They used to scare me when they went into the pen and now I just try to stay out of their way, so as not to slow them down.

This young feller is a little on the wild side, but he can wrestle a calf bigger than him. I'll wrassle calves al day long with him.

We even let the girls rope!

She drug her fair share and I had to wrestle with her to get to help wrassle calves!

"Well, I really prefer to rope and drag them, but I will use Nordforks if I have too! Do you think I should cut my hair or is it better this way?"

I like your pictures too Jinglebob. Those are some nice looking calves. And crew too.

We usually drag the calves out of the pen and wrestle them on clean grass too. Just the way your pictures show it. This year I think we may build the fire in the center of the pen and leave the panels closed up. I think that way we will be able to count the calves out of the pen, and see what kind of a calf crop we ended up with.

Today we hauled out our yearling heifers and a few steers to pasture, and boy did the country smell good. The blizzard sucked, for lack of a better word, but we sure have a good start on some grass. Sage is a bloomin', and things just smell awesome.

Good to hear your starting to cheer up.

Sorry to hear about Don.

I think your idea will work about leaving the panels closed. Either that or ear notch and save the pieces you cut out and you'll know just how many you did. Lots of the old timer earmarked and we've been doing it the last few years and it sure makes it handy if they get mixed, when you go to sort them out. Funny, them oldtimers sure had some good idea's.
