Kids roping story (true) and funny

We visited with friends last week who were raised on a farm and had some very funny stories from their childhood:

The 3 boys were in gradeschool and instructed by Pa to remove a line of fenceposts by the creek while he was gone. They wiggled the posts around to loosen them then got the idea to rope them on horseback to pull them out. Their grandpa was visiting and they told him to watch from the porch cause they were gonna do a roping trick for him.

Our friend, being 18 months older than his twin brothers, was chosen to do the roping. He got his mother clothesline (new, of course), then got on his horse and tied one end of the clothesline to his saddlehorn (uh-oh).
Then at a slow canter he dropped the other looped end of the rope around the first post and rode off quickly.
When the line got taut it yanked on the saddle which, it turned out was a pleasure riding saddle, not a working saddle. The nails holding the saddle together tore out yanking the disintegrating saddle off and spooking the horse.

Our friend somehow grabbed the horse's neck so didn't fall off but ended up holding on hanging upside down underneath the horse's neck with his legs also wrapped around like a monkey on a treelimb and the horse going at a gallup towards the barn. He doesn't know how he ever held on but he did for dear life right into the barn. His grandpa was laughing afterwards- said it was the best damned riding trick he ever saw!
