I was looking for a certain quote and happened upon this one- and immediately thought Kruschev must have met Ted Stevens and Sister Sarah...They seemed to know all about "Bridges to Nowhere" and even built "Roads to Nowhere" with their shares of pork.  :p

Politicians are the same all over. They promise to build a bridge even where they is no river. ~Nikita Khrushchev

"When Kennedy Met With Khrushchev, We Were On The Brink Of Nuclear War."....................Barrack Obama

Kennedy met 15 months before the missile crisis, where the Russians judged him as a lightweight who needed to be tested. The Cuban Missile Crisis played out in an exchange of letters and posturing at the UN. Obama is unqualified to be President.

One problem. There is a river there.

And it also lies between the town, it's airport and a large island that Ketchikan needs for expansion.

Actually it's not a river but part of a large inlet.

You'd also be advised to thank the Republicans for striking that particular earmark from the Omnibus Spending Bill in order to help New Orleans.

Yep a bridge to an island that almost nobody lived on-- and a road that led to that bridge- that even after the Congress struck it from the budget as GROSS pork- because they already funded the ferry, which accounted for a 15 minute ferry ride-- Sister Sarah still took the pork money and built the road to the unexisting bridge- which exists today- but deadends and noone drives on...

FISCAL CONSERVATISM- no wonder the Repubs got their arse handed to them in their hands the last couple years

Don't make fun of the Alaskans too much, we might have to end up borrowing money from them.

The Alaska Permanent Fund has topped $40 billion in value for the first time, state officials said. Less than three years ago, the state’s oil-wealth savings account was valued at $30 billion
This was in 2007
