Gals, I want to put in a china closet in this area of my kitchen... What I wa thinking was a glass door cabinet to hang on the wall with one on the bottom. To tie in the two cabinets I would put a finished fancy type board between the two.

Here I want more cabinet and a counter top type place for the computer and cabinets top and bottom...

And here I want just top cabinets and a shelve to place my jars of noodles and staples that I have...
Please give me any advice....

"How does it feel to want?"

Sorry, katrina, I just couldn't resist that remark. :lol2: :lol2: :lol2: :gag:

I'm no help. I would like to do something different in my office.
It is way too crowded, but I'm kind of locked in to what I have
because of the computer desk I bought. It's way too big for the
size office I have, and it doesn't seem to have that much storage.
Of course, Mr. FH says "if this place catches on fire, with all the
paper around here, the fire department doesn't stand a chance of
putting it out."

I tell you what I would do. I would start by cutting windows everywhere I could. Then call the cabinetmaker and tell them what you wanted to use the area for. Let him line the remaining walls with built in cabinets ceiling to floor with built in desk and all that sort of stuff. Tell him, you want all sorts of cabinets. You want tall ones, short ones, long ones, and all the premeditations of the above.
Make you a nice sitting area in the middle of the room with a few chairs and a center table.
Now get the yellow pages and get busy and start cutting holes before he gets home.

aww now he would not put you on the road. He would love sitting in the bay window desk watching his crops grow while you are working alongside on the books.

That reminds me of a story I have not told in a long time concerning a wife starting the remodeling by her self.
I was riding in west Alabama with a coworker, gosh, several years ago.
He gets a call from his wife wanting to know how to turn the water off. It seams that she had wanted the bathroom redone and decided to do it her self while he was out of town. She took a wrecking bar and removed the cabinet and water was shooting up in the bathroom.
I laughed all the way back as he stayed on the phone and got hid dad to go over and help.

They are still married and she has new bathroom.

I don't know about your area, Katrina, but here a cabinet MAKER would have to be imported from somewhere else.

Cabinet maker? Yellow pages? Man, we live in a whole different world, bama. We are in the STICKS!!

For sure...!!!

katrina, just one little tidbit that I just learned. Our neighbor is a contractor, well, first he is a farmer and then he is a contractor. Builds houses and is very good at it, just hard to get. He just built a new house for himself. On the cupboards he said the fronts can be anything, just make sure the sliders are good. His, you can pull way out to the back, turn loose and they go in by themselves to almost shut, then they stop and then make a little noise and close by themselves. He says the sliders
are everything when buying cabinets.

Little-known and less used fact.

Cabinets and cabinet tops aren't that hard to "do it yourself" Then they are custom fit, and you don't have the hassles of tryin to find ready made to fit into the space you have. We built all our own cabinets in our kitchen, from 1 x 12's that we cut ........dang...this would be better explained with a picture. LOL but I just took the laptop in to the Geek Squad for it's regular maintenance and won't have it back for 4 or 5 days......this is gonna kill me LOL
I think the desk area of your unit would look good under that window....you can work and day dream at the same time.

Katrina, way back when - Soapweed posted a picture of glass etched cabinets. Some plain cheap ready to hang cabinets could be fancied up and personalized by cutting and inserting glass in them. I'm thinking this could almost be done yourself, just stain and varathane the cut edge. A hobby shop can provide glass-etching kits and of course you provide the steady hand for the cuts - LOL.

BTW, I like your wall finish and wood accents.

Faster Horses, I've put all my important stuff by a window (in case of fire). I know they say to not feed a fire with air but darn it - the window would be history if need be.

Katrina when we built our house in 2000 we used a custom cabinet builder. Our neighbour were remodeling and checked out Home Depot then went to the cabinet builder we used and they were cheaper then HD for the same thing. Shop around.

I am no way a designer, but I use to have a similar area in my old house. I loved my corner desk it came out from both sides with lots of cabinets under the Counter tops. having the Monitor in the corner takes up less space and I had a slide out keyboard. The Counter tops were prefab marble from "Home Depot" they were great..and not hard to do at all.

I used the kitchen section because it gave me different depths and heights. And being able to lay my books out to work was great, calculator and everything no so piled under me when I needed to see it all.

I think you have a great space to work with...

GOOD LUCK!! and have fun doing it. I hate remodeling...I tend to leave things alone once I do it. LOL..and getting use to people moving things is hard for me.

How do you know this guy is a good cabinet maker? Do you know him?

I didn't know he existed.

This is funny!!! Thanks! (Not needing any cabinets right now, but IF
or WHEN, I'll know where there is a local cabinet maker!)

He and his wife are our friends. Check out all the neat stuff he's made. Go to his website.

We have a neighbor boy who does real nice work also. Like most custom stuff, it isn't as cheap, but then again, it isn't as cheap made!

Like most things in life, with woodwork, you get what you pay for.
