Last Sled Ride Of The Season

Since the snow is quickly turning to mud, I figgered I'd better hop on the Scud for an hour or so this afternoon. I grabbed a few shots for y'all....

My Scud - Not exactly easy on fuel, but how do you put a price on being able to wrap yourself around a tree at 110 mph?

My favorite spot to ride. An old wagon and Indian trail. Very few people know about it. Its tight, twisty and hilly. Its a challenge at speed, and you have to watch a couple of the jumps otherwise you end up in a tree.

Part way down that wagon trail is a conservation area (they don't close to ATVs and RVs up here). Its one of my favorite places to boondock in the trees.

After cutting across country for a few miles, you hook up onto one of the hundreds of klick of groomed trails. I know they say that Ontario is pretty sledding area, but its tough to beat this.

Long ways down from that trail. Camera doesn't show the distance for some reason, but its a 200 foot drop. You don't wanna lose a ski on the trail :)

Shot of Tobin Lake from up high on the trail

Shot of the same spot, but from right on the lake. We're getting some water on the ice, so another week will see open water.

I was expecting horse and sleigh pictures :p Nice pictures though, and there are trees, you still have alot of snow.

It would have been nice to hook up a team and go, but we had too much snow this year. Raw snow in the field and in the bush was over 3 feet this year. Its dropped about 2 feet in the last week, so I expect it'll mostly be gone by next weekend.

My dad, and a group of guys from here fished Lake Tobin in the mid eighties. Seems like they had an indian guy named Rod as their guide that time.

They really did fish there though. Caught some BIG fish. Commented on all the trees up there.

So Rod how many bales can you pull on a tobbogan behind the Snowmobile?
Cattle market must have been pretty good up north. How many cull cows will a dealer take for one of those things?

1) 5 squares. Works very well for herding when the 4 wheeler can't get through the snow either

2) No cow paid for this toy. Every penny the cattle make get plowed back into them. Decent off-farm incomes and only having to sleep 4 hrs a day are wonderful things. Besides, I've never said I wasn't making money up here, just that I wasn't as much as I used to.

I've often thought about rescueing my old JD bogie wheel sled for chore duties. These new aluminum sleds will pull apart if you pull too much weight on the back bumper.

Nice sled.. wrong make though... lol!
We have two Polaris, and are happy with them. When we are having trouble getting a round bale up a hill with the little tractor (Massey WorkBull) We just drop it on the top end, put a tow rope around it and giv'er throttle.

We have a 700 Rmk (1998) and a 440 txc (1981), and we use the 700 for the dirty work and haulin me and Dad around, even though he only put 35 km. this year, we refer to it as "my" sled, (I put 1090 on this year) anhd the little one as "the Family sled (I diddn't put too many miles on this one because it only had a 1/2 inch track while the 700 had a 2 inch) and my brother follows me on some of my trails on the little one. It's luight too, so you can lift it out when the little ones get it stuck, but when I sink the 700, we got the shovels and the neighbours sled out. (I only got stuck once that is worth braggong about... the rest were just hang ups in the cattails.)
We had three Ski-Doo's tagging along aty the poker rally, two 600 HO's and a 700 MXZ, I think, and we were stopping to let them catch up again... thta was a long trip. Weren't going too fast either because of the big snow the night before, only like 65 on the packed strips... but they did manage to get through with only getting stuck 6 times and a burnt out belt! 8) 8)

Nice sled, colours aside.

 Tell them boys to get some ridin' lessons, cause they're embarassing us Scud boys  This used to be a heavily Polaris area until Ski-Doo came up with the REV. There isn't much that'll show me its tailights, even on a year like this with all the snow. Dead run on hard pack, I'll run 110 - 115 mph (radar trials), get into the deep and the 1" truck 121 track suffers, so I'll be down to around 80 mph. I was going to trade it in on a 1000 Renegade, but I think instead I'll do some engine work this summer when I have time. I like the REV as its much lighter than either the new IQ Polaris's or RT Scuds. Only thing lighter is a Cat, and we just won't go there.
