Lean ground beef is a healthy choice. Really.

It's a rainy day and I'm in the house looking for something new to cook.
I came across an interesting site with some simple recipes...and
some good information. Under '5 bad foods you should eat', they
listed Peanut Butter, Potatoes, Chocolate, Eggs and even Beef. They
supplied some information and some recipes. I love good news
and I thought I would share their comments about beef.

The bad rep: Beef is full of saturated fat and dietary cholesterol, so people who care about their hearts should avoid it.

The good truth: Lean cuts of beef are a low-fat source of protein and iron, a mineral essential for getting oxygen from the lungs to cells throughout the body—and one many women (of childbearing age) are deficient in. There are many lean cuts of steaks: filet mignon, sirloin, strip steak, flank steak. If you can’t remember the names, pick steaks that are deep red with a relatively small amount of marbling—a fancy name for fat—to find lean cuts. Click here for a Bistro Flank Steak Sandwich that has only 3 grams of saturated fat per serving! Or browse our healthy ground beef recipes here.

Ground beef is inexpensive and versatile—two great reasons to serve it for dinner. But there are even more great reasons to consider lean ground beef. For starters, the 93%-lean ground beef used in these healthy ground beef recipes, considered “lean” by the USDA, fits into a healthy eating plan. Few foods provide as much zinc, a mineral vital to growth and a healthy immune system. Plus beef is a great source of protein, iron and vitamin B12. And studies have shown that women with higher intakes of a naturally occurring trans fat found in beef had denser bones than women with lower intakes. Take advantage of the relatively little fat and all those health benefits with these easy ground beef recipes.

FH, I have seen this before. Many thanks for posting the link.

With the bashing of animal agriculture in general and beef in particular being such a trendy thing nowdays, it's refreshing to read articles like this.
