UNITED STATES: USDA reports a two percent increase in the amount of frozen beef and pork but a 20 percent drop in frozen poultry supplies.

U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) reported that frozen food stocks in refrigerated warehouses on November 30, 2006 were greater than year earlier levels for beef, pork, cheese, and butter.

NASS said total red meat supplies in freezers were up two percent from the previous month and up 11 percent from 2006. Frozen pork supplies were down one percent from last month, but up six percent from last year. Stocks of frozen pork bellies were up 96 percent from last month and up eight percent from last year.

Total frozen poultry supplies on November 30, 2006 were down 20 percent from the previous month and down 16 percent from November 30, 2005, NASS said. Total stocks of chicken were down four percent from the previous month and down 21 percent from last year. This reflects efforts by broiler processors to reduce surplus inventories of chicken meat.

Total pounds of turkey in freezers were down 48 percent from last month, but up seven percent from November 30, 2005.
