Let me introduce myself

I signed up here as a member over a year ago and then I got busy :) --

I also am a charter member of the AgForum.net site --and seems I've not been there much either -- I live in New Mexico --born and raised in Colorado --ranch and rodeo cowgirl all my life --

I now spend most of my time "riding" a keyboard --I'm full time writer for Ruidoso News out of Ruidoso NM --and I'm in charge of the outer county news..which means I get a regular shot at feeding the townfolk the rural news. They've seen more county fair, FFA, 4-H, ranch rodeo, high school rodeo and ag related stuff in the past 4 years than they knew existed beyond the tourist boundaries of Ruidoso.

Four almost five years now I've written a column about ranch/rural/cowboy life that has grown continuously in popularity --it runs weekly in the paper I work for as well as sporadically in a handful of other publications from Montana to Texas.

I try to put into words what we all just take for granted, what we live day to day and in almost ALL of it, I try to find something to laugh about. I like to laugh and I like to offer something to someone that will bring a smile.

I finally put a collection of the stories together in a book that will be available the end of June --the web site is up, the blog gives me a place to share ongoing photos of various aspects of cowboy -- and the further I go the more I learn how important that is --in places you wouldn't think would be uneducated about agriculture --they sure are. See web link below in my signature.

I read this board from time to time and just haven't taken the time to become an active part of it --but always like the feeling of family that abounds. I'd like to participate a little more in that. I see there are a few NM posters here so the "look" of my photos will look like home. To those of you up north, it'll be a look into the same world only different.

So for now, let me say HOWDY from New Mexico...

Howdy back at you. :D

I drove an old man back to Carrisoso NM in the summer of 76. We drove over to Ruidoso and looked the town over.

The old feller had lost an eye and had Glucoma in the other. The trip was a hoot and I sure wish I would have had a tape recorder. I've written some of the stories he told down, but have forgotten lots of others.

I like your part of the country, but it gets a little hot for a little too long to suit me, but I think it would make a great place to winter. :)

You were right here in my neck of the woods Jinglebob...in fact my zip code is for Carrizozo :) --cross roads of the world!

It does warm up a tad about June ---but a body gets used to it. I've become somewhat of a lizzard myself -- and I was raised on a mountain ranch in Colorado ---now I'd freeze to death up there!

Darn sure can take our heat compared to the heat and humidity of say.......south central Texas :)

LOL Psstttt Haymaker, I think she just called us "not regular folk" hehehe

It does take some gettin used to tho. It's a big difference switchin from hot and dry, to hot and humid. My family still laughs at me, when I go home to west texas, and the sun goes down, it can still be 80 degrees, but there's no humidity, and I think it's cool. They think I"m nuts LOL

I don't know if anyone hates wearin a jacket more than I do. And I realllyyyyy hate havin to drag out the coveralls. But it does happen down here, ever now n then.

I laugh, because 20 some years ago before Mr Lilly and I got married, we bought Walls jackets alike. (we were still in highschool) Those jackets are still in the closet....they were the same size, both fit only me now. But they still look brand new. Not too often a person hasta go jacket shoppin down here. LOL

Welcome to the forum Julie, I haven't reached as far as New Mexico on my forays as yet, but will have to visit some other expats sooner or later, I always imagine NM as being similar in climate to southern Namibia, a climate I really enjoyed!
Looking foreward to your future posts.
