Liberal colleges. This is really frightening

A good friend of ours has a daughter going to college in Missoula.
She is planning to be a doctor, and has been/is very serious about
her schooling and grades.

Just last week in English lit class guess what the assigned subject was?

They had to write a paper on HOW TO MURDER SOMEONE!!!!!!!!!

This absolutely makes me ill. I told her mother to call the university
and complain.

The girl couldn't walk out, she has a scholarship that she needs to keep.
But the mother said the young man behind her was all excited about
it and said, "ya, I been thinking about how to murder my girlfriend."
The young lady said the whole tempo of the class changed with that
assignment.

What she wrote about was someone was attacking her mother
and that she would shoot them.

I just cannot imagine this going on in a Montana University.
Or in any university for that matter.

Let's hear some outrage!!!!!!!!!!

You're behind FH. I have heard of it going on in a highschool. I don't know if it's true. I do know a school here in class give examples of living in a fall out shelter, and you have to kick out some people, the question posed to students (friends of ours kid) was giving the choices, (pregnant woman, child, old man, young woman , young man, etc.) which would you kick out and explain your logic. All they are doing is trying to show kids, some peoples life is worth less than others.

These ' scenes' have been used for years & years not only in schools but also in management training classes. This is not new.

It doesn't have to be new to be stupid. Where are we teaching out kids about honor? Duty? Doing the right thing. Helping others? You liberals are a piece of work.

It was an university english lit class was it not?....Many people write murder mystery novels that solve murders, such as Agatha Christie or the sherlock holmes stories..I do not think the the task was for the professors gratuitous desires of grotesque murders....Maybe you dislike that style of writing but Murder/solving writing has been written for many years .I think all it is doing is if you want to write murder mystery books you must know how to solve the crime.Only thing is you need a crime to solve,do you not?

The Hollow
Lady Angkatell, intrigued by the criminal mind, has invited Hercule Poirot to her estate for a weekend house party. The Belgian detective's arrival at the Hollow is met with an elaborate tableau staged for his amusement: a doctor lies in a puddle of red paint, his timid wife stands over his body with a gun while the other guests look suitably shocked. But this is no charade. The paint is blood and the corpse real, turning a pleasant country weekend into one of Poirot's most baffling cases.

taken the intro of an Agatha Christie book..

This student could of wrote this in classic descriptive way that would be more about the ploting, then the end result...No one is taking sherlock holmes of the shelves.or are they?

I don't think the fall out shelter is all that different from the old, and I mean old, question of two people are drowning. One is your wife, one is your child who do you save. Or one is you father, one is your child or any combination of the three. My dad said he was asked that question back in the 50's (Although I think it was in college, that liberal bastion the University of Iowa  ). .. I know for some it is actually a way to determine the writers values. Self sacrificing (Themselves) or selfish (anyone but them) type of a thing.. Had a pysch major talk about it with me once.. It was interesting.

As far as how to murder someone.. Well, that could get kind of grey to me personally. I mean, people do write murder myseteries/ crime drama all the time and how far from that is this really. Depending on how you go about writing the topic and how the teacher worded it would make a huge difference to me.. If it is write about you killing someone that is one thing, if it is writting about a murder than that is entirely different... Now, in the case of the idiot saying he had been thinking about ways to kill his girlfriend, that it becomes a lot clearer that he is a moron and his girlfriend would be better served kicking him to the curb...

I don't think I had any lit classes with questions like this but I didn't take may creative writing classes either. Some of the creative writing teachers (And depedning on what lit class you took you could get one of them) did have some different questions... I can surely imagine one that was doing Christie books asking folks to write something similiar... Heck, I had to write about apocolyptic scenes from modern cinema for a intro to comp teacher.. She was, interesting.

Attending a university is about learning.

During heart surgery the patient is "dead" for a short time. Does this make the surgeon a murderer?

See you silly people think this will turn every kid in the room to a mass murderer!! GET A GRIP people.

I don't see how you have the time to write on the forums cause it seems you spend way too much time hunting for ' boogers' under the bed all the time. NOT EVERY THING IS BAD!! Or is it bad because YOU didn't think of it first???

What the teachers are trying to do is build decision making skills into the students. So many kids today CAN NOT make a decision.

Apparently most of you missed that day because when one gets a gas pain here it seems that all of you get the same gas pain, same place and same duration!!!

You can sure tell the Libs here. Coming up with more questions to
justify something horrible.

The assignment was not "SOLVING A MURDER" it was "HOW TO MURDER
SOMEONE."

Get that????????????

What would you say if I told you the teacher was Muslim?

I didn't say he was Muslim, I said, "what if he was"?

Kola, are we are "silly" people because we don't think like you, or what is the criterion for making us "silly people"?

If it turns even one kid into a murderer, which is quite likely, it is a bad, bad deal.

"GET A GRIP people." You are talking down to us, as if we don't hold a candle to your level of intelligence.

Wouldn't it be better to get these students to "make decisions" in a positive way, by asking questions of them on how to improve the community, help the homeless, feed the hungry, or some other worthwhile project instead? By having them come up with devious ways to murder someone, what possible positive outcome can a problem of such a nature deliver? For one thing, a potential murderer has to first have another person in mind that "needs" to be murdered. Further dwelling on details of how it could be pulled off, cannot be a heathy thought process.

We are talking about the basic differences between good and evil. You are not acting very civilized, educated or nice.

This is just an extension of my rant on the masterbation film I refuse to let my 10 year old son watch. I am no prude but honestly what good can come of it??? I can almost guarantee that by 10 he has that all figured out on his own. IMHO watching a film of this type would be humiliating for a group of grade 5's.

What exactly is the point of these projects? I know exactly how to murder someone. Do I really need to write a paper on it? I'm not sure when the lines were crossed but wouldnt it be nice if our students today could write papers on positive things? No wonder depression in students is rampant. It is proven that if you are around positives you are a much happier person. Negativity breeds Negativity.
