Liberal Professor: "Too Much Force"

Liberal professor Ruth O’Brien from The City University of New York thinks we may have been a little too tough on the Boston Marathon Bomber who was killed by the police. O’Brien, who’s the author of the forthcoming book, Out of Many, One: Obama and the Third American Political Tradition, chided the Boston police for using “too much force” when they killed, Tamerlan Tsarnaev. Sure, he may have killed a lot of people and their lives may have been at risk apprehending him, but they should have been a little kinder and gentler, darn it (Maybe his brother, who ran over him in a car escaping a shootout with police, should have given up instead of making him into a speed bump).

Now we have captured the two terrorists from Chechnya who come from the troubled region that is Muslim, but we cannot understand their motives, not yet. And Obama encourages us to refrain.

This said, the mortuary pictures of the older brother of the two are extremely disturbing, raising questions as to whether the Boston Police Department captured him with too much force.

…Boston has great resonance for terrorists. Selecting the Boston Marathon has great impact and it is going to be felt among the upper middle class: healthy, white, high-income earners who are non-smokers and non-drinkers (though maybe pancake-and-syrup eaters) — those who attend the Boston Marathon or watch it.

I do hope we all watch the cleanup or the damage control and hear the words Obama uttered – we should be careful not just to bracket the motives of these terrorists – but also make sure to remember that we are an immigrant nation.

…The United States that I love hunts down terrorists AND follows human rights during capture.

…We accept difference, as a nation, and we should champion our greatest strength – inclusivity – at these extreme moments if we want the character of the United States not to be judged harshly by the global community.

What's with The King?

He was all over the Boston police for acting hastily arresting Professor Gates, all over the Treyvon Martin case, but asks everyone to act with caution before assigning motives to the Fort Hood massacre and now this one.

If I was a cynic, which I'm not, I'd think there was some connective theme there. :???:

Obama - "The most beautiful sound in the world":

"The most beautiful sound in the world," according to Barack Obama, is the Islamic call to prayer. So it is no surprise that one of the ancillary events at the Democratic Party's convention in Charlotte will feature two hours of "Jumah" (Friday) prayers.

If it had turned out to be some "rightwing extremist", like the "left" had hoped, I'm guessing the show of force would have been "insufficient".

Gee I think I was trying to point out this very take on the force used by the police in another thread. I'm glad the guy was taken into custody but what will come out of the reports of the rapid gun fire and the force they took? Will it gin up sympathy for the terrorist that will hurt the case against him?
