U.S. Senate Votes To Destroy Human Life For Research

The U.S. Senate voted 63-34 yesterday in favor of S. 5, which would allow federal tax dollars to be used as an incentive to destroy human embryos for stem-cell research. President Bush has promised a veto, and 67 votes were needed to override that veto.

In stark contrast to claims that embryonic stem cells hold the most promise for medical cures, a study published Tuesday in The Journal of the American Medical Association shows 13 young Brazilians with type 1 diabetes have been able to stop taking insulin shots, thanks to a promising treatment with their own stem cells — not embryonic stem cells.

Thankfully, President Bush opposes the legislation and said he would veto it. "This bill crosses a moral line that I and many others find troubling. If it advances all the way through Congress to my desk, I will veto it," the president said in a statement after the vote.

He sure has changed his tune since his '99 signing of the Futlile Care Law!!

Hmmmm .........can we say FLIP FLOPPER!!!!

These embryos would have been destroyed anyway from the fertility clinics...

Do you people want these clinics to hold EVERY embryo FOREVER in cold storage?

Some how you seem to believe or imply through your posts that I am a Bush groupie. It matters not to me who's in office. I'm a principal driven voter. If they are a man of principle , and their principles are right, they'll get my vote over the candidate that is more promise or program than principle. When it gets down to the actual election and out of the primaries, I'll vote for the candidate with the most principled stance. I voted for Bush over your angus buddie, Gore. I was right then , I'm right now and if you can't put forth a candidate that has some conviction about doing what's best for the defensless of the world instead of the entitlement beggers, I'll not vote for your party in "08"

No the "donors" can donate them to whomever they want....or pay for their storage...it is now their choice why take that choice away from them?

Why should the Federal government meddle in every part of Life?

The new bill that passed the Senate would allow those people to donate those same leftover embryonic cells to research instead of being thrown away as is current practice.

Really? I was unaware of that. Show me where it's been illegal to donate your frozen embryos to private research?

What's wrong with just adopting a kid that needs parents and a home? I don't understand people that do all of this embryo freezing ****.

I'm with you Cal, I've flushed enough cows to know the damage it does to them. I can't for the life of me understand how someone can put their wife through that. The swelling, discharge, tumors, cysts, weight gain, etc. Doesn't seem like a good choice just looking at it from what it does to your wife. The adoption process is so messed up in this country though I am sure some find it hopeless.

I think it boils down to men wanting to play GOD. those who do not believe in a divine power are far too easily persuaded to think they can produce life themselves........ I imagine there is a chair in Hell awaiting those who tamper with things they should not.
