Today we went to the historic Fourth of July festivities in Belle Fourche SD. We made it down in time for the parade, and it was a nice day for it, and a nice parade too. The kids were engrossed in chasing the candy when some was thrown in their direction. So I was paying some attention to who was giving out the treats. A lot of the local dignataries, and want to be dignataries were riding on the floats. A guy that had won the Democratic primary in the June election seemed to be pouring out the candy with a scoop shovel compared to the rest of the floats. I told the kids he must be a liberal Democrat, from the amount of candy he was dispensing. And he must have also been passing out someone else's candy, by the speed of which he was dispensing it.

I think they may have been a bit young for it to soak in, but I thought it was funny, and an astute observation on my part. :D

Sorry to mention politics on this Independance Day.   :)

I think you're right about his liberal ways. As a conservative, he might have kept it all for himself.

As one of those "wanna bees", I was tickled to see your family's smiling faces in the crowd. Since this was my first parade as a politician, I was a little too conservative buying candy. I’ll try not to let that happen again!

Thank goodness Senator Bogue had leftovers he pitched into my car when he went by after he had gone through the route and my car was waiting in line to join the parade.

I'd sure hate to disappoint any of the little people waiting eagerly for something to rot their teeth and bring on a sugar high. :p

What did you think of the cool Model A Roadster I got to ride in? The driver was a kid who grew up in my hometown and is married to our neighbor girl. My little helper was their son who brought his own supply of licorice to throw!

That was my driver’s father driving the red Model A loaded with dignitaries from the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. Do you suppose one of them was Hay Maker?

I don't think giving out candy at a parade has so much to do with party affiliation it more shows who's giving and who's cheap. Just my opinion!

I agree,if it comes down to decide who to vote for over candy at the last parade.......I would then have to decide who threw what kind and how much.....say one party tossed Milky Way bars into the crowd, then that party would get my vote.Even if the other side had more, but they were cinimin hearts, which i do not like....So it becomes a dilima, what is the favorite candy to throw?Millions now will be spent on hard candy..I can see Ralph nator Throwing throat losanges during flu season.....George bush's party makes a monumentle error by deciding to throw hersy kisses on a hot summer Dallas day....The democrates fail to gain votes after throwing jelly beans into parade crowds, everyone knows you cannot just eat one jelly bean....CRM is right,to judge people on amount of candy GIVEN away to kids at a summer parade,is just plain silly......

:???: Duh! :???:

I can see you left leaning folks have no sense of humor. If you can't figure out that, then I give up. Yep, that's why I spend time explaining my positions, so that I can just use the "candy barometer" to decide who to vote for. :!: :!:

You guys just keep up your liberal leaning ideas, and I'll keep being "right" with my ideas. 8)

Liberals just have no sense of humor, nor seem to enjoy themselves very much.

Brother, you can say that again. This reminds me of something Paul Harvey said years ago, when comparing Republicans and Democrats. He said, "Republican boys want to marry Republican girls, but they date Democrat girls because they want to have a little fun first." And, "Republicans and Democrats both drink, but Republicans measure their liquor out in little jigger glasses. Democrats just pour and pour and pour." :)

You really haven't knocked around this old world much, or gleaned any real experience, have you nonothing? You need to leave Vancouver and get a country job in a remote rural setting so you can see what makes the world go around.

Mr soap weed...I again find myself having to defend who i am...I have been to many interesting places, including the rural setting.....but one thing i notice here is how closed minded some are...honestly I see how you make most decisions based on what seems to be bottom line dollar only.....Its like people no longer matter, everything is a number to you(or at least thats how i read it).........Jimmy Carter is a awesome human being, but he cant be liked here because he is a dem..Everything to you seems to come down to money....I know jesus would question some of the ways people put them selves first here....I dont mind you quoting the bible at all,I just cant recall Jesus ever using money as a gauge on peoples lives...Yes you do pay for others to raise families.....should the people without children pay for school taxes?I think yes.for an educated society helps us all. That being said it cost me money.....You do not mind paying billions in millitary costs, but you gripe at how much candy the dems throw at a parade?I know i will get your pack all over me about this.and frankly i am used to it now......but one can travel all they like, see the world twice over, but if they never open thier closed mind, the experience will mean little.....

To the pack...have at er

But it was just a joke, nonothing, just plain and simple a tongue-in-cheek joke. That is the point you missed, and why we are all "picking on you". Tap was just being facetious, and most of the rest of us caught what he was doing, just making a joke. Sorry that it has eluded you. :? :???:

To nonothing...

"Don't take life so seriously. No one gets out alive."

What you are experiencing here is a little "Cowboy Humor."
I find it is the best kind. People that live on the land have learned
to deal with problems using humor, so they are very good at it.

I thought Tap's initial post on here was very clever.

Soapweed doesn't have to take a back seat to anyone in the humor
department. It would be nice if they didn't have to explain themselves
over and over...

IT WAS A JOKE!!!

nonothing, I sure don't hold anything personal against you, but you must be a little dense when I explain the meaning of my post, and you still don't get the point.

One of my favorite quotes is: A politician is someone who can bribe you with your own money. The real crux of my story was how people are always more generous when they are giving away something that didn't cost them anything in the first place. Not that this gentleman didn't buy his own candy (of course  ), but that liberal democrats excel at taking from someone who earned something, and giving it to someone who didn't. Maybe you could say my kids were welfare recips. that day. :) (More humor).

I think the real difference between liberals and conservatives is how they see the world. One does not need to be rich, to believe pulling yourself up by your own bootstraps. And I do believe in helping the needy, but a lot of this is done by private donations by the rich folks you want to punish.

Jimmy Carter might be an ok human being, but he was a dang poor president, and he has done his share of ginning up the hate against president Bush, in the Iraqi conflict. He might say it in a nice way, but it still means the same.

first off the post I wrote about candy was tongue and cheek.Very obvious too. Then Tap wrote his post and the last line in that post was not meant in fun.Say all you want about me,but read his whole post and tell me if that was all meant to be fun? Again I get called names by people on here,I am not sure why it gets to that, but i happens all the time here.If you dont follow on here, prepare to be continally charged at.....funny how 3 of you came at me about this, its never just the writer of the post.

see is that not funny?....i even picked on Ralf....i found it to be very fun to write even.....who throws ,throat losag, melted chocolate and single jellybeans,it was just a joke...geeze.So the DUH that tap wrote was to carry on the fun??????

I think it was tap that missed the joke....but i am the dense one.Read my post and if you think i was serious, you best read it slower.

nonothing, maybe this "parable" applies. A bunch of inmates in a jail were only allowed to speak to each other. Since they were all with each other so much of the time, the jokes that they told became very familiar. Finally they just gave each joke a number. Someone would say "six" and the others would all laugh. Another inmate would call out "fifteen" and everyone else would find it hilarious. A new guy was thrown into the jail crowd, and after he had been there awhile, he realized what was going on. He thought he'd try to be like the rest of them. One day while the others were hollering out numbers and getting big laughs, he said "eleven." No one even smiled, and his feelings were hurt. He inquired to the jailbird standing next to him, "Why didn't anyone laugh?" The other inmate replied, "Well, some people just don't know how to tell a joke."
