She had a "aw how sad moment at the first barrel" LOL it went down slowwwwly. Barely touched it, was like slow motion. This is her first really big Barrel race, and the horses too. He'd never gone anywhere like this before, and he did awesome. Me an Toilet Paper hadda lil chat before she saddled up bout takin care of my lil girl. It's hard sometimes knowin she could get hurt doin what she loves. But the way I see it, it's what she LOVES to do. And we are gonna do what we can to get her there. She was worried that he would spook at everthing (which he don't normally do) but beins it was indoor arena, longgggg alley way, and loud music and bright lights you never know. He walked up the alley way like it was no big deal. Some of the seasoned horses were terrible!!! Even tho that barrel went down, she rode great, did everything she was sposta do at the right time. Winning time out of about 2000 runners was a 15.274 Lil Lilly's time was a 18.4??(I wrote it down LOL)
I see some parents get mad and scream and holler at thier kids if they hit a barrel. I don't feel that's necessary. They know they knocked one down, ya just hafta help em figure out what it was that caused it and how to not do it again the next time. She's had this horse since May (5 year old) and this is the second time she's hit a barrel outta all the runs she's made all summer. So it's not a habit the horse has gotten into, he was just a tiny bit too close to the barrel comin out. He's still relatively green, he'd been trained on barrels for 90 days when she got him. So, they will improve with time.

Aw, that's too bad. Glad good ole TP was a gentleman about the whole thing, though. Li'l Lilly and TP turned in a great time, though, sounds like.........just a little too much competition, I reckon.

Some of those barrel horses are psycho, I think.

Al and I stayed at the Fair for the pro-rodeo one night (he was supposed to ride in the back of a pickup while they announced the Grand and Reserve Champions of the Livestock Shows) and saw one horse that I wasn't sure about. He came back home so fast that it looked like he was either going to smash into the gate, or jump it.........at the last second, he skidded to a stop. It took a good 10 years off my life, just seeing it, and I didn't even know who the gal riding, was. :?

I enjoyed the Junior Rodeo much more, love to watch those great kid horses, they really do take care of their little buddies!

Lilly,

Yep, I would can a lot of the seasoned horses, but maybe it is the riders that get them this way....Some calf roper friends of mine have some of the best horses in the box you'll ever see. One key is when they start them, they start the horse at a walk and then nod. They aren't bunched up and are more relaxed that away,

Glad you all are having fun and you aren't one of "Those Screaming Moms",
