Good for you. My banker doesn't say one way or the other.
We do our own trucking, and after cleaning out the trailier countless times, there is a secret to having less shrink... But SH, I can tell you don't need to know because you know everything and do everything just right and make all kinds of money Hell your just plain ash perfect. So just why are you here? Most of us are here to learn. I would guess it would be a waste of time. Go ahead pat yourself on the back... You are full of it...I'm outa hear.....

OK Katrina, you have me interested, what's your secret to less shrink?............good luck

Quit spreading your BS around. :cowboy:

Secret to less shrink? A belly full of grass hay, light on the water, lower the stress, weather not too hot, and don't waste time getting to the scale.

Good luck finding a 2% shrink deal in this neighbourhood as well :? It's a thing of the past. Three percent is more normal these days.

Enjoy your sour grapes, there girl! Take a breath and think about it a little.

The guy does know whereof he speaks, and we have watched his success in the cattle business for some years now. The simple fact that his family's operation is not large enough and family considerations keep him from full-time raising cattle, at this time, shouldn't be any reason for you or anyone else to put down a guy who is doing a fantastic job of raising good cattle that excell in the feedlot and packing plant, IMO.

Granted, if you do not personally know SH, maybe you can be excused for implying he is blowing smoke. However, it looks more like the fact that he is able to factually challenge each of your points in prior posts made you lose your temper a bit. I can understand his points, since we have have absolutely similar experiences over the forty some years we have been selling cattle.

Each of us in the cattle business is so proud of our "independence" that sometimes we allow it to harm our business. Maybe you have easy access to more auction markets than many do. We all need options and choices in where/how we sell our cattle. That shouldn't be held against any of us. Nor, IMO, should anyone be carrying a bill in Congress to further limit our choices of where/how to sell cattle.

BTW, some big factors favoring video auctions are: the buyer pays the freight; and if one chooses to "no sale" them, the cost is much less than the commission and trucking to an auction barn; the difference in stress between video and sale barn is an additional bonus for both buyer and seller.

Yeah, Okay........The bottom line is quality.......whether your selling or buying. 8)

First, Katrina, I didn't intend my previous post to sound harsh and critical of you, but wanted to point out that the situation with SH might not be like you thought it was.

re. quality, yes that is important.....and maybe we need to remember there are needs and markets for a variety of "qualities" of cattle, too.

We sure do like to eat our Longhorn cross or purebred retired roping cattle. Hard to beat the flavor, even if some of them could be more tender. Doesn't the story on that DNA marker to show level of tenderness sound exciting? The cattle business can't be much fun for people who hate change.

MRJ,
Bless your heart, but your digging yourself a hole. It's what ever blows your dress up.. Retired roping steers or CAB.....

Whatever!

Maybe it's the money we make selling the best and eating the rest that won't bring top dollar makes it taste better. We are going to keep on buying those roping steers so long as grandpa and grandkids want to keep on roping......and growing those Longhorns up a few years to see how the horns turn out. More fun and less expensive than some other forms of recreation, in our opinions.
