For those of you in or around Valentine probably know of Linn Churchill. He and his wife just live less than a mile from me, and his wife is our country school teacher. We're all hoping that Linn makes it to the finals, cause not only with this be his first trip...it will be Me & Hubby's first trip to VEGAS!!!! Sure would be fun for us to cheer on our neighbor...

If yall can find them:
$83-nose bleed section
$1500-lower section

I would'nt worry about tickets there are plenty for sale all over when you get to town.Go to cowboy christmas there is a booth set up that you can buy unclaimed or unwanted tickets plus all of the scalpers. They don't get much over face value unless your there the final weekend. We bought lower level tickets for $75 when we went.

Dang, I'll have to follow you around. Last year my buddy bought his at Cowboy Christmas booth & gave $230 for lower level. I checked the ticket websites yesterday & thats where I got those prices. We generally just watch it on the big screens at the casinos after Wednesday

We bought ours from scalpers they ask for alot but are willing to deal.My wife said just to pay him but I said heck no and we started dealing I'm cheap. We checked the internet when we went also and they were quite high,a friend of mine had been there the year before and said the scalpers would deal and have plenty of tickets.

Well I'm both cheap & spoiled. For years got free tickets thru an apparel sponsor, but when that stopped the "sticker shock" of ticket prices made it a whole lot easier to watch it on the big screens  :)

We went years ago, when the whole package deal, flight, motel, meals, several vegas shows, and rodeo tickets was only $400 each. I think I'll be watchin it on ESPN from now on if tickets to the rodeo are that much these days.

I have struggled to resist exposing my elderly status - however - I feel I must compare my early experiences with Las Vegas with that of the insane situation which exists in that city today! It is tantamount to the almost unbelievable conditions which are apparant in the United States today, and which will only get more EXPLOSIVE in the lives of every single American as the days progress. Try a few of THESE bits of information on for size:

Las Vegas means "The Springs", but they don't seem to know where they are located.
I remember Las Vegas when there was only ONE big General Store in the entire town, and my Uncle was the Manager of the store.

I was sitting on the prow of a Motorboat going UP the Colorado River and being carefully held in place by my Dad when there was a large flag on one side of the canyon - and a large flag on the opposite side of the canyon marking where Hoover Dam was GOING to be constructed!

I was also there when the Dam was about 25% completed and we were driven INSIDE one of those HUGE outlet tunnels, and made a "U" turn beside a gigantic Steam Shovel and drove out the way we came in.

My Dad and I (I was 6 years old at the time) signed a release paper which allowed us to walk across a hanging and Swinging ~~~ Catwalk being used for the Dam workers to go from one side of the Canyon to the other! My Mother was not aware of it until we got back on solid ground, and she would have used an Elastrator on my Dad if they had been invented at the time!! It WAS pretty dumb!! But I am glad NOW that I had the experience.

I remember when Las Vegas had only ONE paved street, and that was about three blocks long - downtown. The rest of the streets were DUST. But...they had casinos and gambling. And the "One Arm Bandits" literally were made to resemble old Western Gunslicks and you pulled their "ARM" holding a gun down to play the slot machine.

And only small light bulbs for lighting!

Twenty years later you could see a Four Hour show in a Casino Theater for the price of a dish of Ice Cream - Thirty-Five Cents!

I can't even tell you how many times I have been to Vegas in my life - but I can tell you that I don't EVER want to go back. EVER!!! And I have NEVER gambled one single dime there! . . . .Oh. . .I take that back. I did try to teach my three boys the evils of gambling one time by taking THEIR allowance money (!) (to teach them a hard lesson) and put it in a slot machine ( with three little faces plastered against the OUTSIDE of the Casino window to let them actually experience losing their weekly allowance), - - - - -hit the Jackpot :cry2: - - - -and made them about Thirty Dollars!! :lol2: :lol2: VEERY funny! Ruthie (my wife) is STILL laughing!

Have fun in Vegas - - -if you have several thousand dollars to throw AWAY!

Neat story, Doc!

I've never been to Las Vegas but Mr. FH has. He went with Stan
Weaver (Weaver Quarter Horses) to take some mares to a grandson
of Driftwood near Prescott, Arizona. They stayed overnight in Vegas and when he called home his exact words were, "At least they put this place where it didn't ruin any nice country."

He didn't like any part of it.

Loved the story Doc...it's so neat to hear how things use to be, and I've seen on the history channel the building of the Hoover Dam and that just amazes me. I have never been to Vegas, but have always wanted to go to the NFR...and this year we had tickets offered to us and we took em. My main plan is to sightsee instead of gamble...of course Hoover Dam is 1st on the list...see the bright lights..and the rodeo. Hubby is not looking forward to the trip as much as I am...we'll only be there 2 days, which I'm sure will be long enuff. I did tell him that at least he'd fit into this crowd alot better than he did when we went to Sturgis last year to the Harley Rally. Talk about about standing out in a crowd! His cowboy appearance got looks from the "Harley folks"...I thought it was funny...he didn't quite see the humor in it..lol I'm sure we'll have a good time, and then I can mark Vegas and the NFR off my list of things I want to see...Oh by the way..our neighbor friend Linn Churchill is officially qualified for steer wrestling!!!! So it'll be fun to cheer for someone we know!

Soap - Actually they did. Not one of them are gamblers, and they comment frequently that that lesson in Las Vegas made a big impression on their minds, in spite of the fact that they made money.

All three of our son's are extremely competitive in everything they attempt - sports, games, and life in general. Ruthie and I have worked very hard to make them self-sufficient, independent, and honest in all of their personal and professional dealings and relationships, and we are very proud of their accomplishments! Our oldest son is Labor Relations Manager of a Fortune 500 Company, our middle son is Project Manager of a large company contracted to the United States Department of Agriculture - Forest Service, and our youngest son is a Senior Captain Pilot with an International Airline - for 22 years with this company! Ruthie and I are prejudiced, of course, but we take full credit for their successes!  :???:

Congratulations on raising three fine sons. I am sure they had great examples to follow, by watching you and your wife. What more in life is there to ask for, than to see your children grow up to be honest, respectful industrious citizens? My hat is off to you.
