Hopefully Saturday we'll be sittin on the porch watchin it rain ...... :D
As for the Holiday, Prolly put on a brisket and let it cook for bout 8 hours, make a big bowl of tater salad, and some beans to go along with it and maybe an apple pie or peach cobbler(aint made up my mind on that yet). Invite a few friends over to share it.
I know the kids are gonna want to do fireworks, but I just hate the thought of them thangs, it's not super dry, but dry enuff for fireworks to start a fire in these woods. So we probably won't do any.
Sunday or Monday evenin we may take some of Lil Lilly's friends out and have a camp out with horses and let em ride. Wiener/Marshmellow roasts.
 Needa watermelon!!!!!

Baker always has a great fireworks display over the lake, so we try
to get in on that. The 4th of July is Mr. FH, birthday (momma's little firecracker, ya know  ) and he tries to stay in out of the heat
as much as possible. It's his day, so we let him make the call.

Gonna be a rocky mountain oyster fry at the little town to the west
of us. Might hafta check that out, see how hot it is by then.

I don't know how you do it, carrying on as if it was cool out!!

Happy Fourth of July to everyone.

And remember what we are celebrating!!!!!

Probably spend a good share of the long holiday weekend doing the same as any other day-haying...Will have to take in the Hinsdale rodeo on the evening of the 3rd- adopted son is back visiting and is entered in the broncs and barebacks, hoping to pay for the trip home....That is also Grandma's and my anniversary- which we've spent at a rodeo every year since we were married.... :)

She brought home a big old prime rib today (freezer is getting bare) so we can maybe have the kids all out on Sunday....On the 4th the local firemen put on quite a fireworks display- so I'll probably have to miss my normal bedtime to take the grandkids to that....

I am working overtime this entire weekend (ohhh, big surprise!!  ) and then will be helping set up the hospital float for the parade on the day of the 3rd and will be handing out water bottles and candy during the parade the morning of the 4th!! Our local volunteer fire department does a huge, delicious pancake breakfast the morning of the 4th, so will have to fill up the gut for energy before the parade and the rodeo!! Both little ones (flint, age 10 and riley, age 7) will be riding miniature bulls in the rodeo!! This will be my first 4th of July off in 12 years and I will probably have heart failure watching those two boys!! Wish me luck and hope I can get ya a few good pictures!!
:D :D

I wish you all to have a happy and SAFE 4th of July!!

I'm having people over to grill out and just sit back and enjoy each other. Maybe fish a little, play cards some, and visit a lot.

Fourth of July has historically been the "cowboy holiday"...All the old ranches used to give the hands several days off over the 4th-- everyone head to the nearest town or community for a big picnic, rodeo, and indendence day blowout...Sometimes take the boss man several days to get everyone rounded up, bonded out, saddles and chaps out of hock, and back to work- but they usually all came straggling in in a few days...

Around here it has kind of been cowboy wedding time- My FIL was working on a ranch on the Canadian line when he married the MIL- only time he was sure he could get off was the 4th, so they got married at the picnic...The Mrs. and I got married the evening of the 3rd...Last year I married a young ranch couple over the 4th holiday...

Since parts of our area got as much as an inch of rain- a lot of folks that were haying will be joining the festivities this year....

"...an inch of rain". Sigh.

We can't buy a rain. I came home from Miles City yesterday early
evening and drove through some rain most of the way. The clouds
gathered here, but Fallon County didn't get anything. The storm clouds split and went north and south of us.

Maybe next time.

The spring wheat is really suffering, as are the farmers who
planted it. Had such a good start too.

A lot of the wheat here is looking bad too...We only got .2 on the area of our pastures and the wheat fields- some of the ones toward Fort Peck got a nice rain...The predicted 90 degrees for today will take care of our .2 fast...Most of the rain went south of the Milk - with a lot of the heavy stuff following the river ( where most of the down hayfields are  )...Really weird little storms that weren't even predicted popping up out of nowhere.....

Went out to try and pick some bales this morning- slipping and sliding all over the place and rutting things up-- decided I may just have to put things on hold for the day- as Grandma has the family invited out for prime rib this evening...Altho the youngest is on her way to Livingston and parts unknown with her boyfriend who is riding broncs in the rodeos down there-- and the grandkids are camping til Wed- #1 daughter has to go to Sidney to be in a wedding.....May end up just being Grandma and me...

We have folks coming from Paraguay and my 93 yr old father in law who is having some ominous abd. pain problems besides his already known cancer problem and is under the weather- very unusual for him- so we'll be laying low, burgers/steak and rhubarb pie and probably a game of Scrabble(he usually beats me half the time) and swimming for some- not exactly your typical 4th but great having them here this week. Happy 4th and God bless this wonderful country!

Sounds like a fun Fourth.

You do have me a bit confused about the Scrabble abilities of your father, as in "he usually beats me half the time." Now if he "usually" beats you, that would be more than half the time, or at least six games out of ten. If he beats you half the time, that would also mean that you beat him the other half of the time. Regardless, it sounds like he is a whale of a Scrabble player. Good for him; it is a fun game.

Just kidding. I just hope I can at least get the Scabble letters right side up on the little pedestals when I am 93. Tell your dad, "Happy Fourth of July" from ol' Soapweed.

He'll enjoy your comments, Soap! He has real vision problems and has to hold the individual letter tiles up a few inches from his eyes and seeing the board is even more of a problem but not much stops him. What an inspiration he is.
He is a poor speller so I get points through challenges- but he tromped me again last night even tho he tried to spell "watt" with one T.
Happy 4th to you and yours!
