Longhorn cow lost her calf

I recently purchased a longhorn cow. The she calved before I could bring her from the sellers ranch and the calf die like a day or so after being born. My question is how long do you think I should give her before I try and have her AI'd?

Big Muddy, you bring up a very valid question. I sometimes wonder about things like that, too. Maybe the calf was a great looker, and someone in charge slipped it out, and only said it had died, when in all reality, it was just removed from the mother.................

My dad had a stud horse when I was a kid, he was daddy to my little Soxin mare......we had a neighbor  at the time, who would bring his mare up every spring, and get her bred. The first two years, she threw a horse colt, both were lively and looked just like Mr. Bob. The next year, she had a filly, which the neighbor  said was born dead, and he never paid for that breeding. Not too many years later, we saw a nice looking mare that bore a striking resemblance to Mr. Bob, just like all his babies did. We always wondered if that filly had been stillborn, or if the neighbor  was just pulling a fast one. Ever since then, I've been a little more than slightly skeptical, if there's no evidence........

Hope ya can find out for sure on this one, TITUS TURNER. And I'd AI the cow probably the second heat........just to give her a chance to get healed up well from the "dead" calf. And, welcome to the board!

That's a hard call. Since "if" you don't know the circumstances of the loss of the calf. Course we here on ranchers don't either.

Be nice to have a lil more info to go on.

Sorry took so long to get back.I've been very busy with work and computer down.
I didn't actually see the calf live. I saw the cow before she calved like a month. The ranchers wife works with me and she told me the calf was born then about a week later she said the calf died. When I talked to husband he said it was because the calf seemed weak, which really isn't an answer.
But to make up for it he offered 2 straws of seman from some real good Butler bulls free.
