JB and Haymaker- You can have this batch of moisture- I'll gladly give it to you...My arthritis is already aching, so you know the weather change is going to kick those old cows into high gear with the calving...

We definitely had a nice day today- temp was 46, but the wind was howling 25-30 mph...

They updated ours now to a storm watch....

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN GLASGOW HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM
WATCH...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM SATURDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH SUNDAY
EVENING.

SNOW WILL DEVELOP FROM SOUTHEAST TO NORTHWEST ACROSS THE REGION
LATE SATURDAY AFTERNOON AND PERSIST THROUGH SUNDAY EVENING. EAST
TO SOUTHEAST WINDS 20 TO 35 MPH WILL CAUSE AREAS OF BLOWING AND
DRIFTING SNOW PRODUCING OCCASIONAL WHITE OUTS. UP TO 8 INCHES OF
SNOW IS POSSIBLE
BY MONDAY MORNING FROM THIS STORM.

A WINTER STORM WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT
SNOW...SLEET...OR ICE ACCUMULATIONS THAT MAY IMPACT TRAVEL.
CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE LATEST FORECASTS.

What would be wrong with a nice gentle rain? Haymaker's forcast has me feeling sorry for myself.

The upside is IF this materializes, the dams sure could use some runoff.

Oldtimer, these spring storms get me to thinking about our old friend rancher. I remember the trouble he had after last years storm. Hope all fare ok through this one. I'm glad the old cows are nearly 3 weeks from calving. The best calf to have in a rough spring storm, is one still inside it's mother.

Yeah-- ol rancher better dig out his grumpy pants.... Been so nice around here this winter I'm not even sure where I hung my carharts, but I better dig them out....Weather boys still say they think the worst of it will stay south of the Missouri, which is the normal pattern for these spring storms...

Haymaker- I saw them interviewing some folks from Oklahoma on FOX news tonite and they were saying there is no more local hay to be found...Wish we were closer as everyone up here has way more than they need.......

Lots of leftover hay around here too. Got a neighbor that has 400 extra rolls.

Now if we could just figure a way to get it out there.........................

Yeah, everybody around here is trying to hold on a little longer, hopeing for a wet early spring,if not we will sell again and start looking outa state for hay, this drought has really taken a toll on some of these old ranchers heard more than one say if they are forced to sell again they are gonna retire, sit on the front porch drink whiskey, down here we can almost make more money running deer leases than cattle anyway.............good luck

OT, I'll gladly trade you for the weather we've been having. lots of nights down to -30, with wind gust to 70kmh, and snowing as well. Calving season is getting awfully long, might turn the bulls out later this year...

Looks like things are still on track Oldtimer. Another big one in the Black Hills and SE of there. That makes 2 in a week. Areas had 2 feet earlier this week down there. And that was out of the hills too. I don't know if they had 6 inches of snow all winter up to that point. We haven't had much.

Better go find my grumpy pants myself. Come to think of it I must be wearing them. I better get out and get things prepared for the day.

At 5:25 pm mt the wind is between 35-45 mph from the SE and the snow is coming down hard. That is how it's been since about 9:30 or so this morning. We too expect to have more snow and wind through Monday.

After lunch, Mr. TTB, his father, grandfather, and brother moved the registered cows to our "backyard" where they have better protection. Our commercial cows are in a pasture with lots of breaks, some trees, and good protection. The registered cows didn't have much except some hay corrals for protection in their pasture!!!

The upside is that we don't have fires and we are getting moisture.

Be safe everyone--

Cheers--

TTB

It's cloudy here, supposed to have 90 % chance of snow tomorrow, we gave our weaned calves their first pre-conditioning shots today, just the three of us, (sw, Montana Cowgurl and myself) went well, quiet, no WRECKS!!! :p

If it's snowing bad tomorrow we'll go to the "MORE" show in Billings (Montana Outdoor Recreation Expo) just what we will need to keep our spirits up this spring...winter's not over yet and we never know when that last frost is going to be......

The worry around here is losing electricity. We have had freezing rain for a couple hours. Not too much yet, but the ground is icy.

I think I will join you in Billings Hanta, if I could get through the snow.

Why is it that those of us with short term memory, don't remember what these early spring storms are like, on the day we turn in the bulls.
It is always sunny and nice on turn in day, and easy to get the bulls in to get them out of sight.

Tap---around here, ya just never know when you will get hit with those "freak" storms....a few years ago, this tiny town of ours got smacked with 8" of snow on the 18th of June (demodrivergus's birthday) and many of us can recall recent rodeos on the 4th of july that were delayed or just plain cancelled due to a snow storm!! Yup...ya just never know!!
