Lost a Calf

Lost a calf early this morning. :( Nice little heifer too.
I had checked them last night and this cow had a small bag, and no other signs of her possibly calving.
I was more concerned about another cow that has an almost full bag.
Calf died from the cold before we found her. I really hate it when this happens. Crap happens.

Have 2 early heifer calves running around though. Nothing is really showing any signs of calving. Each one has been a surprise.

That's no good :? . It really stinks losing them this close to calving. Hope your calving improves for you, and warmer weather heads your way soon.

I should have slept through the last couple nights and let you get up and check heifers!! Mine have kind of held up during this cold snap and that's fine by me.

Seriously, I'm sorry to hear that. You know you're going to lose some, but you always hate it when it happens and think of what you should have done.

Thank you everyone.
It's starting to look better.

I put the one with the bigger bag in the barn at around 7pm last night just to be safe. Checked her at 11pm, nothing.
Hubby was at the bar, so I went to bed. He found a nice bull calf at around 1:30 am. :D
Other then the bag, no real signs to hint at calving.
Put a first year heifer in to barn this morning. All she was doing was twitching her tail, sniffing the ground and she kicked at her belly.
Better safe then sorry.
