Lost a good pony today

I need a favor from ya'll tonight. We lost my wife's gelding today. He'd been acting lathargic but on feed for a couple of days. Last night while I was at work he got down during the night. We got him up and to the Vet but had to put him down. Ruptured intestine that surgery wouldnt help. She's had him longer than she's had me. Sure would appreciate kind thoughts sent her direction. "Dandy" was 16 and as gentle as a lamb. It's cold and pretty sad on the desert tonight.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. Losing a good horse is hard anytime, but especially one which has been a constant for so long in your life . It's a tough deal for sure.

so sorry to hear that Hs. both my wife and i have had to put down two of our favorite horses in the last 5-6 years. one because of colic and the other because of a horrible wire cut. believe me when i say, i know how you both feel. there is probably nothing anybody can say to make you feel better, but know we are thinking about you. hang in there.....

I never cried when they buried my parents or my brother but I bawled like a baby when I lost my little hopsing mare-don't if that makes me a bad guy or not. My thoughts go out to your Mrs.-I used that little horse like a car for fourteen years-hardly feel like saddling up any more. By the way you've got mail coming your way-I think you'll like it!!

Sorry for your loss H's, as Haymaker said time heals. After a time you will be looking for a replacement to ease the empty spot Dandy has left.

I put a 26 year old mare that we raised from conception down this fall as the winters were getting to hard on her. I like to believe there is a heaven for animals also.

Regards, Gcreek

My old team just turned 20-there was a sale in town tonight but I couldn't bring myself to take them in-better let Megan come home and say her goodbyes.

I'm so sorry to hear about losing your good horse. I know how you feel,
and you have my sympathy. Just try to remember the good times--it
will get easier with time, as Haymaker said. We've put down two
good old horse friends in the past few years and it doesn't get any easier.
Please know you are in our thoughts.

I'm with ya H and Mrs. H. Hard to loose a good furry friend. Something about a good loyal animal that is hard to describe.

Thank you everyone. I really appreciate it. NR, I don't think I've ever cried more over a person than my horse either. Strange isn't it? We brought him home and burried him in the back pasture. That helps a little. I know that I have been real sporadic on here lately, but it sure is nice to have your support. You are all such fine people. Thank you.

Little H said she would have her little mare bred and I could have the colt. What a girl!

I like to think he'll come running with my other two good furry friends I have lost, to meet me when I die. One is my first horse that taught me everything I know. The second was a colt we raised from my mom's mare. 5 months old. He was going to be my barrell horse and he was trained in everything but carrying a rider. But Dandy was the hardest to lose. I've known him since birth and owned him since he was 4 months old. He was one of my best friends. Sometimes better than a human friend. I know, I am weird!

I am sorry for all of you too, that have lost your horses. You know you won't have them forever, but it's still hard.

You're not weird Mrs. H. Animals will show their feelings toward you a lot freer than the human animal. Without reserve and with full honesty.

That is one of the most profound and truthful comments ever made! I'd rather hang around critters any day over the two legged type. Thanks ya'll!

Sorry for your loss. I have a hard time getting attached to animals. I've lost a lot of good dogs and few exceptional horses. If you don't make that bond you never become a great team. Another opportunity will come to find a pardner.
