I was looking on Craig's list and came across this:

We have 10 pairs for sale ranging from half/bloods to purebreds. Price varies depending on the age and pedigree of the cow and range from $1500 for an older 3/4 blood with purebred heifer calf to $2200 for a young purebred with heifer calf. Registration papers included. Our steers grade choice on grass. These are hardy small frame cows; easy to calve out. Call Judy or David at 406-644-3042. http://bitterrootranch.net

I think 644 prefix is Charlo, Mt. which is north of Missoula, Mt.--
in case anyone is interested.

There was a young "miniature Angus" cow that came into the Gordon sale barn a few weeks ago. She had a calf at side that was two or three days old. The pair only weighed 600 pounds, and they brought $450. I almost made a bid, and then thought, no, why would I want them. :?

Because the cow is at best worth $360.

.60*600#

Calf is basically worthless. It would cost more to keep the calf a few months than the income it would generate.

I am all for moderate framed cattle, but these minis are not the way to go.

How are they getting purebred calves out of 3/4 blood cows? Are they graft calves?

They can call 'em purebred at 7/8 under the rules of the registry. The ones that are undiluted descendents of the orginal Australian stock are the FULLBLOODS. Big distinction between the terms in that breed.
