Poll: 58 Percent Of Americans Want A Third Political Party

3:10 PM 09/24/2014

A new Gallup poll on Wednesday finds that the majority of Americans want a third major political party, as the existing two are doing a terrible job at representing their interests.

For Americans, both Republicans and Democrats “do such a poor job” that 58 percent believe that an additional political party is necessary to bolster the U.S. political process. The high numbers continue a trend stemming back to 2007, where a majority of voters have supported the establishment of a new political party to contend with the two main options. Exceptions to the rule include the presidential election years of 2008 and 2012 in the fall, where the numbers dipped slightly below majority.

Independents, even more than Republicans or Democrats, sorely want a new political party, coming in at 71 percent support for the idea. Democrats favor a new party at 47 percent, with Republicans following closely behind at 46 percent. The numbers are actually down from last year, when it jumped to 60 percent in the middle of a 16-day government shutdown.

a third party???? You could call it the Tea Party

Possibly- but the Tea Party is already recognized as a part of the Republican party- and in with many is also recognized as one of the Repub Parties problems...

Tea Party's Popularity Reaches New Low, Poll Finds

The Huffington Post | By Ariel Edwards-Levy
Updated: 08/15/2014 12:59 pm EDT

Unfavorable views of the tea party nearly doubled over the past two years making the conservative movement more unpopular than ever, a Pew Research survey released Wednesday finds. Forty-nine percent of Americans now view the tea party unfavorably, while just 30 percent view it favorably -- an 11-point net drop since just this June.

The loss of esteem crosses party lines. A bare majority of Republicans still view the tea party favorably, while 30 percent of independents and 13 percent of Democrats do.

Just about a third of Republicans said the tea party is part of the Republican Party, rather than a separate movement, according to the poll.

Why not 5-6 parties?

The problem with a 3rd party is the Cult called the DNC will all vote in lockstep with each other, Blacks including the thugs, Communists, Mexicans, American Indians, Gays & Lesbians The "Elite" Hollywood types, stupid, ignorant rural Whites like OT who were brainwashed to think FDR was a Savior during the Depression (but actually prolonged it), Illegal Immigrants, Career Politicians, Muslims, impressionable college students whose Frontal Cortex's haven't fully developed, women (the majority) that want free health care, free abortions, and their hospital bills paid for all maternity costs for the little bastards. Not to mention all the teachers that support the NEA, ALL union members that get paid on seniority status instead of actual job performance, all Welfare & Food Stamp recipients, Government workers, ALL INNER CITY FOLKS, and everyone else with IQ's lower than the number of fingers & toes. Hope I didn't leave anybody out.

What you've described above IS the majority of America today sighted in the fatman's poll. Oh, and you did leave off the transgender cross-dressing metrosexual rainbow coalition types.

Having said all that, coalition goverments have worked wonders around the world. Think Italy for instance.

You frequently side with draft dodgers , etc. Why criticize others that do the same?

Remember RR, you're trying to speak logic with an Obama voter.
