Majority oppose impeaching Obama

By Rebecca Shabad

A majority of people in the United States said President Obama shouldn’t be impeached, according to a CNN/ORC International poll released Friday.

Nearly two-thirds said they are against impeachment; 35 percent said they support it.

Nearly 60 percent of Republicans said they would support moves for Obama to be impeached, as would 35 percent of independents and 13 percent of Democrats.

These numbers, however, are basically in line with public opinion on impeachment of other presidents, CNN's polling director said.

"Anti-impeachment sentiment is roughly where it was for past presidents — 67% opposed Bill Clinton's impeachment in September 1998, and 69% opposed impeaching George W. Bush when a few Democrats began talking about it in 2006,” CNN Polling Director Keating Holland said.

A majority of people said they also oppose House Speaker John Boehner’s (R-Ohio) lawsuit challenging President Obama’s use of executive power.

The poll found 57 percent said House Republicans shouldn’t file the lawsuit; 41 percent said they should.

The House Rules Committee approved a resolution to authorize the lawsuit on Thursday. The House is expected to approve it next week.

Forty-five percent of people said Obama has overstepped his bounds using his executive authority; three out of 10 said his actions are about right and 22 percent said he hasn’t gone far enough.

These polls are where the phrase "Figures lie and liars figure" fits like a glove. Any poll or trial can be prostituted to skew the results to the desired outcome.

I'd be curious to know how many R's, D's, and I's were polled, and the ratio. (Out of 100, 60 D's, 35 R's, and 5 I's, for example). And I'd also be curious to know how many of the total were receiving government benefits of some kind; food stamps, unemployment, SSI, etc., social security and medicare notwithstanding.

The ones attached to the government tit won't want to kill the goose laying the golden egg.

Majority. Yeah, right.

Probably a poll of the senate- you know, mostly liberals with no morals and the rino's trying to hold on to their seat of power.

Looks like the tea party is scaring the hell out of Zero and OT.

OT is now bragging that Buckwheat is not yet a candidate for impeachment?

My, we've come a long way haven't we?
A senior White House official said he expects Republicans to try and impeach President Barack Obama, especially if he moves towards using executive orders to address the growing immigration crisis.

Dan Pfeiffer, a senior advisor to the presidents said the White House is taking the impeachment threat very seriously.

"I saw a poll today that had a huge portion of the Republican Party base saying they supported impeaching the president. A lot of people in this town laugh that off. I would not discount that possibility," he told reporters Friday at a breakfast sponsored by The Christian Science Monitor. The comments were reported in The Hill.

One such poll, conducted by YouGov/Huffington Post earlier this month, showed while almost half of all Ameircans think the president has exceeded his constitutional powers, only a third support impeachment. That number grows to 68 percent among Republicans, as compared to 8 percent of Democrats.

A recent unscientific Al.com poll conducted the same month showed 64 percent in favor of impeachment with 33 percent opposed.

Pfeiffer said House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio's decision to move forward with a lawsuit against Obama over his use of executive actions increases the chance of impeachment proceedings. Boehner has said he 'disagrees' with those who want to impeach the president.

"I think Speaker Boehner, by going down the path of this lawsuit, has opened the door to Republicans possibly considering impeachment at some point in the future," Pfieffer said.

Calls for impeachment will grow, Pfieffer said, if the president uses an executive order to address the growing immigration crisis or allow for naturalization of those in the country illegally.

I wonder if the media and the WH are in cahoots in drumming up support for the Democrats, for Nov. Looks like the endless campaign season has started...

WASHINGTON -- One of President Barack Obama's top advisers said on Friday that he expects House Republicans will ultimately file articles of impeachment against the president.

Impeaching The Messiah would be like pizzing on the ashes, no?

Let those that voted for him realize their mistake, when they slam head first into the brick wall.

Let Barry serve another few years, so he can correct the mistakes of Bush, IMO.

There is not much of a possibility of the US correcting, so he might as rule over what he has created.

I'm actually hoping Hillary wins, in 2016.

When not an incumbent, when was the last time a front running Dem won their party's nomination?

By that, I mean a prominent front running Dem prior to the start of the normal campaign cycle. Such as Hillary prior to the arrival of Zero on the scene. Like free Willy that came out of no where, etc.

The Democrats are desperate now, the President is under water on every issue, including immigration.

Any discussion of Republicans working to impeach US President Barack Hussein Obama over any executive action he might take on immigration is “pure politics,” Rep. John Fleming (R-LA) said Friday.

“The president is behind that narrative,” the 3-term GOP congressman from Louisiana said. “There has not been any discussions on the impeachment of this president. Republicans do not want to go there.

“Democrats would love nothing more than to create that discussion, that narrative, to get Republicans to start talking about that and suggesting that and implying it, or even advancing it. They think that they can get their numbers up.”
