So I decided to do a search on Canada news my response came back:

Hockey and what those Americans are up to.

I don't feel I can comment on hockey except looks like big men with big sticks beating the crap out of one another over a little puck.

I'm already commenting on American news because I am a citizen and live here. :D

Liberals, NDP cautious on Harper call for free vote on gun registry
49 minutes ago

By The Canadian Press

OTTAWA - The leaders of the federal Liberals and NDP are keeping their powder dry on Prime Minister Stephen Harper's appeal for a free vote on abolishing the federal long gun registry.

Liberal chief Michael Ignatieff said he wants to see the "fine print" before taking a position on a bill that would do away with registration of hunting rifles and shotguns.

Ignatieff says he won't support anything that guts the registry - especially if it has repercussions for other weapons such as handguns.

NDP Leader Jack Layton says the bill, as initially drafted, would loosen controls on too many firearms other than those used by hunters and target shooter's.

But he didn't shut the door entirely on the idea of a free vote on the bill sponsored by Conservative backbench MP Garry Breikreuz.

Layton says the NDP doesn't usually whip its MPs to toe the party line on private member's bills.

Gunman kills 3 officers, wounds 4th in Oakland, Calif.
Last Updated: Sunday, March 22, 2009 | 10:02 AM ET Comments53Recommend21CBC News
Three California police officers are dead and a fourth is in critical condition after a shootout with a crime suspect in Oakland.

The shootings happened Saturday after a routine traffic stop. Two officers on motorcyle patrol were shot by a man wanted for violating his parole.

One of the officers died at the scene and the other was seriously wounded.

About two hours later, officers received an anonymous tip that the gunman was inside a nearby apartment building. Two officers and the 26-year-old suspect were killed during an exchange of gunfire.

California Attorney General Jerry Brown said the incident shows the criminal justice system needs more resources.

"It's just an indication to me that our prison system is broken, the parole system is inadequate and, instead of cutting back and putting more and more burdens and restrictions, we have to give the police greater authority to do their work and protect the citizens," he said.

The suspect was armed with an assault rifle, police said.

Scrapping the long gun registry was one of Harpers original platform promises. Unfortunately consecutive minority parliaments have been so far unable to pass it. Hopefully the end is now in sight.

Doesn't matter. Being aware of what's going on beyond your front door is never bad regardless of the reasons.

Honestly it started out of my sarcasm, but then I saw why Canadians seem to know so much more about our news then we do theirs. When you look up US news there is tons going on here and then world news. When I went searching Canadian news there was their news and American also. I actually found it interesting.

You nailed one of my worst fears for the US, R2.

"Well the Arab nations are often woefully uninformed since their state newspapers and leaders only communicate propaganda."

Freedom of the Press in this country means Opinion, these days.

Accountable journalism is a thing of the past...way past.

If they were so unbridled, why didn't they report on the connection
between Wm. Ayres and Obama?

Why did Shawn Hannity have to keep repeating himself about
Rev. Wright for months, starting in March of last year? The news media was just about forced to pick up on that one.

Why didn't they report what Obama said about taxing the coal
companies til they folded?

Do you really think we have unbiased news in this country? Cuz if
you do, I sure as heck don't.

Because of crazies like Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity and Bill OReilly Oldtimer you really don't think it was the New York Times and MSNBC do you.

How much do you realize about the freedom of the press here in your own country?!

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

seems simple enough to "realize" for most Natural/Native born United States citizens.. except a few leftist liberals in congress, and the White House that seem to want to silence the opposition with doctrines..

I get my early morning news from the BBC,.. while left leaning, they can be brutally honest at times about our situation..
