I watched old George and Laura the other night on Larry King (who is a pussycat of an interviewer) - but old George even half lost his cool with Larry when he asked him about if how he could justify torture that was violations of both US and International Law, imprisonment of both US and allies citizens without charges or judicial review, and refusal to carry out US law as passed by Congress...
GW's answer was I had an attorneys opinion on each that I could do it...
Well I been around enough years to know that if you look hard enough- and pay enough- you can find an attorney that will give you any opinion you want.. And hopefully sometime in the future GW will find out that a sh*tty attorneys opinion does not prevent you from prosecution or judgement...
Which reminds me of the hearings on the Mexican truckers being allowed to traverse the US... After extensive safety and unfair competition complaints the Congress TWICE passed laws (by huge majoritys) banning Mexican truckers from hauling products in the US--- which GW told Congress to go to hell on....
During the hearings the Chairman of the Transportion Committee Senator Dorgan ( who is a very quiet spoken legislator) blew his cool- first at the Secretary of Transportation- who took the Bush excuse- we had an attorneys opinion we could do it-- and then to the 25 year old brand new attorney (that looked like he was 18)-- that said his ruling came about because he thought an "and" should have been an "or"- so that justified going around the law...Dorgan ripped him a new A hole about being the only "kid attorney" they could find that would give them an opinion to fit what they wanted....
Bush Law- where the law or Congress or the intent of Congress meant nothing...
