Saw were McCain is saying we should put up a 300 Million Dollar prize for anyone that improves battery technology so as to push Electric Vehicles and or Hybrid plug-ins into a mainstream use.

That is some good leadership in the right direction. Even you Liberals have to be happy with that bold move? Could help make you global warming nuts happy and also lead to more energy dependency and less demand for imported oil. With out drilling or hurting the environment.

McCain just jumped up a notch in my eyes, showing that he will look at some serious possible energy solutions, not just the same ole same ole.

“The big story out there continues to be the high cost of gasoline. Four bucks a gallon. I have stopped traveling anywhere that is not downhill. Luckily, John McCain has the solution: Fabulous prizes! Who says McCain’s campaign has no new ideas? They have the new idea of offering millions of dollars to people who actually have ideas. It’s just the latest example of John McCain’s brave fight to keep Americans awake while he talks” -Stephen Colbert

It worked for space flight, a 10 million dollar prize resulted in private companies with no government financial backing developing space ship one who made back to back space flights within a two week period.

If gas prices stay as they are today, inventions will be coming out of the cracks everywhere, either for alternative energy sources or for improvements on the ones we have now.

The Government just needs to stay out of it and let the entrepreneur spirit take us into the next century!

We can see how messed up things get when they decide what is best, just look at how ethanol has everything messed up.

I watched a speaker the other day- a very conservative energy expert- and he brought up a good question...If there was a more cost effective viable renewable energy source that was reliable- don't you think that a country like Japan- which leads the world in much science and development- and that has been totally energy dependent for a 100 years- and was totally devestated in a war they fought over oil/energy- that they wouldn't have already developed it :???:

Nissan is one of the companies about to release a Electric Vehicle. Japan is no different than any of us, they had no need to develop it, Oil has been so cheap for so long there was no need. But you can rest assured if oil prices stay as they are, Japan will be a leader in this market very soon if the U.S. does not get moving.

No one including Japan was going to spend millions or billions of dollars on alternative fuels, when the present ones were dirt cheap. But that has changed and it is a whole new ball game.

The same foundation that gave the 10 million dollars away for going into outer space is offering a prize for a car that can get 100 mpg and be commercially marketable.

These are the kind of changes that will take us into new energy sources, not the government!

OT I did not realize you had so much faith in the Government to solve your problems? You are sounding more liberal by the day!

Yeah. Great idea. And while we're at it, maybe we should shut down the US Meat Export Federation, too. We don't need the government to promote US produced beef overseas!
